Abstract
Apparatus for ventilating a toilet bowl comprises a toilet seat (1b) having internal ducting open to the toilet bowl and connected via an extractor fan (7) to a filter (8).
Description
Ventilated Toilet Seat The following invention enables the extraction of
unpleasant odours which emanate from the toilet bowl to the room, rather than masking the smell with propriatory atmospheric deodowisers. The present invention will extract the odours from source and either filter the air for re-entry to the room or dispose of the unwanted air.
To achive early and efficent odour extraction the present invention proposes an easy clean ventilated toilet seat capable of drawing foul air from within the toilet bowl by means of a small low noise low voltage electric motor driven fan to be passed through a filter and re-enter the room alternativly be evacuated from the room by means of a wall fitting vent or an attatchment means to the existing drainage system. An example of the invention and proposed associated fittings will now be described with reference to accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows a conventional toilet bowl drawn for example only with the invention shown fitted ilustrating the configuration of the ventilated toilet seat manufactured in several user friendly parts consisting the base unit 1 encompasing several weight supporting components 2 and fitted with a suitable number of rubber buffers 2b to absorb shock, a self supporting snap on or press on fully encompasing top lb facillates cleaning by being easly removable and even interchangable to also allow for fashionable cbange, with it's hinge 4, also designed to facilitate ease of cleaning by the pulling or twisting off action of the stop end 12 and the similar action at fitting 5 "Items 12 and 5 are interchangable for convenience" leading via the pipe 6 to the extractor fan 7 which can be facing in either direction to enable convienient access to fitting assembly 8 which is connected by pipe 6, the invention at the shown position I is in the off or rest state, to avoid incident or fear of electric shock the power supply to the electric fan should be from a low voltage source such as battery or low voltage transfonner 14. Upon lifting the cover lid 3 to facilitate use of the toilet bowl a small moisture protected electrical switch 9 would be triggered by a small unobtrusive protrusion or pad 14 enabling a low noise low voltage electric motor driven fan 7 to draw any air occupying the toilet bowl in to the hollow toilet seat I through the vents 2 achieved by manufacturing the seat assembly in at least two sections 1 and lb as described on drawing page3/6, the air borne odours move through the seat I through the hinge consisting of a straegicaly positioned fabricated pipe 10 firmly held in position by the folded or moulded bracket 4 with securing bolts and nuts 11 for attatchnient to convenrional toilet bowl's and sealed at one end by a push or screw thread fitting stop end 12 at the other end of the pipe is a push or screw fitting coupling S attatching to pipe 6 then to the electric fan 7 in turn the fan 7 passes the air borne odours through pipe 6 into and through the filter 8 effectivly deodurising the air prior to re-use, completion of the cycle is achieved when the cover lid 3 is returned to the closed position disengaging the small moisture protected switch 9 terminating the function of the fan 7, the toilet function is completed upon the flush.
Altenativly to filtering the air for re-circulation a through the wall ventilator 12b comprising a simple non-return flapl4b could be fitted through an existing outside wall to achive odour evacuation at low cost and low maintainance Alternativly to using the filter assembly 7, odours would be passed through a water filled valve 13 fitted to the existing drainage system enabling the one way transfer of odours directly to the sewage system.
Claims (4)
- Claims I A ventilated toilet seat enabling the removal of unpleasentodours from source utilizing a small low voltage electric fan the action of which draws the unpleasent odours from the bowl to the filter and subsequently back in to the ambient atmosphere.
- 2 A ventilated toilet seat according to claim 1 which fits all propriatory toilet bowl's being so constructed as to facilitate ease of cleaning.
- 3 A ventilated toilet seat according to claim 2 which upon removing the odours from the bowl passes the foul odours through a wall vent out of the room.
- 4 A ventilated toilet seat according to claim 2 which upon removing the odours from the bowl passes the foul odours through a water filled trap directly connected to the sewage system for example"under a near-by wash hand basin".
