Abstract

A strap of flexible material suitable for wearing around a wrist, neck or waist is fastened by a single hinge mechanism comprising a pin inserted into loops formed at the ends of the strap material. There may be at least three loops of material which interlock to form a continuous sleeve into which the pin is inserted and held in position by the pressure of the strap material alone. The strap may be made of leather, rubber or fabric and the loops may be formed by returning each end of the strap back on itself.

Patent application for a fashion band accessory.
A strap of leather or rubber is wrapped around a wrist, neck or waist and fastened with a pin. The pin is inserted through three or more loops formed by the ends of the flexible strap material. The pin itself is only fixed in position by the pressure of the strap material. No additional fixings are used. The width of the strap varies between 20mm and 70mm depending of the use. The thickness of the strap also varies between 1 mm and 3mm depending on the material used. The diameter of the pin can vary from 4mm to over 10mm depending on the design. The fastening sleeve loops are formed at equal dimensions to each other and interlock when in the fastened position to form a continuous sleeve into which the fastening pin is inserted. The strap material is either extruded or if fabric/leather glued and stitched. In the case of leather the strap is folded so that both ends meet in the middle of the strap and so that the strap shows the outside of the leather only. The fastening loops are formed by returning each end of the strap.
The invention of the fashion band accessory is innovative as it uses a single hinge mechanism, formed in a soft material and a pin, which is the sole method of fixing/fastening. We have not found this mechanism used for fashion accessories. Our research shows that only metal handcuffs with a double hinge mechanism opposite to each other, to allow the opening of the handcuffs uses a similar arrangement. The cuffs are closed with a pin but also require a splint to prevent the pin from falling out of its sleeve.

Claims (1)

  1. Claims 1. A strap of flexible material wrapped around a wrist, neck or
    waist and fastens with a pin.
    2. A strap as claimed in Claimi where the returning ends of the strap material form two or more fastening steeve loops, that when in fastened position interlock to from a continues sleeve into which the fastening pin is inserts.
    3. A strap as claimed in Claim I or Claim 2 where the pin is fixed by the pressure of the strap material.
    4. A strap as claimed in Claim 3 where the strap material is folded so that both ends meet and so that the strap shows one side of the material only.
