Abstract
A system for detecting rail passengers having a sensor in each seat reacting to the weight of a human body. A portable visual display unit is carried by the ticket inspector relaying information relating to seat occupation and indicating whether the travel fare has been paid for each occupied seat. Passenger information will be updated each time the train passes through a station.

Patent Specification
Description - the following is a description of a system designed to prevent fair dodging, or train jumping'.
When a train service customer becomes seated a sensor inside the seat detects someone is in the seat.
If this isa new traveller who has just joined at the last or previous stations then the sensor sends a signal to a processor, the processore sends this information to a hand held device possessed by the conductor, and is displayed red as shown infig.1 The conductor does not have to rely on his memory or the good nature of the human race to put there hand up when he asks tickets please', to see who has not paid the fair.
Once the new traveller has paid the fee the sensor is de-activated until the destination of the issued ticket is reached - therefore the traveller can walk to the toilet or the buffet with out causing the conductor to ask for the ticket again.
The system requires a sensor in each seat that send information to a processor that will send the information to the hand held device, the processor must also have an input of the location of the train, so that when a destination relating to a traveller's ticket is reached the sensor is re activated.
As well as catching non-payers the system will also prevent travellers from paying to go from say Penzance to Cambome, but staying aboard till Plymouth.
The numbers relate to the correct seats, the red indicates travellers who have recently joined and have not paid. Green numbers indicate the passenger in that seat has paid, the grey numbers are unused seats0 Page 2 When a ticket is sited, the following information is inputted by the conductor - SEAT NUMBER E.G D 13 DESTINATiON NUMBER 13 This means the seat number wiN be green until destination 13 is reached when reached the sensor becomes hve again, if the person leaves the number Will bmegeyjftheyyth the numberwiHm red.
Each rail stop will have a destination number Penzance no.1 Paddington no.23.
Claims (5)
1. A system that will stop rail travel users not paying the fair.
2. A system according to claim 1 n which a Weight Detecting Seat Sensor is fitted to each individual seat on the train.
3. A system according to claim 1 in which an electronic computer is utilised to process information from the sensor according to claim 2.
4. A system according to claim I in which a Portable Visual Display Unit is utlllsed to operate alongside the electronic computer according to claim 3.
5. A system according to claim 1 in which information of the trains location is inputted into the Electronic Computer according to claim 3.
