Abstract

A live water pipe isolation unit consists of a watertight bag 2 and watertight seal (5, Fig. 5) fixed to a main body 1, which locks around live water pipe work by means of a locking mechanism 4. Hinges 3 enable the live water pipe isolation unit to be opened up and then closed around the pipe work. When the live water pipe isolation unit is in the open position, plumbing equipment such as a pipe cutter and an isolation valve can be placed inside the bag. When the live water pipe isolation unit is closed around the live water pipe, it forms a watertight seal with the plumbing equipment inside. When the pipe is cut, the bag contains the water that escapes 2. When an isolation valve has been fitted, the water can be drained from the bag and the isolated plumbing appliance by means of the draining down valve 6.

DESCRIPTION
flue: A LIVE WATER PIPE ISOLATION UNIT Background: This product is designed to enable work to be carried out to live water pipe work without first having to shut off the water supply and drain down the system. Shutting off the supply and draining down the system is time consuming and costly. It is necessary because in order to work on a plumbing appliance (e.g. a tap, a boiler, a tank, etc) that is situated at the end of live water pipe work, the pipe must be cut to remove the water flow from the appliance. When the pipe is cut, pressured water escapes from the open pipe.
The product enables a person to cut the live water pipe and fit an isolating valve to the live open pipe within a watertight unit.
The drawing: Reference numbers: I - Main body; 2 - Watertight, flexible, transparent bag; 3 - Hinges; 4- Locking mechanism; - Watertight seal; and 6- Draining down valve.
Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4 show the product closed around a length of water pipe ready for the work to be carried out. Figure 5 shows the product opened up so that the bag (2) is open and items can be placed inside.
Use of the roduct: The product consists of a watertight seal (5) and bag (2), which can be fitted around water pipe work that needs to be cut (see figures 1, 2, 3 and 4). When not in use the bag can be opened up and any necessary equipment placed inside (see figure 5). A pipe cutting device and isolating valve should be placed inside the bag before the product is sealed around the pipe work that is to be cut. The product closes around the pipe work by means of hinges (3) and is locked into place with a locking mechanism (4).
When the product has been closed around the water pipe, it creates a watertight seal around the length of pipe within it. Equipment placed inside the bag can then be used to work on the pipe within that watertight environment.
A pipe-cutting device is used to remove a section of pipe within the bag. When the pipe is cut, water will escape from the live open pipe into the bag. The bag will be full of water. An isolating valve within the bag can then be placed over the live open end of the pipe. The water pipe has now been stopped up.
Once an isolating valve has been fitted to the live pipe work, work to the isolated plumbing appliance can be carried out. The water that has escaped into the bag (2) is emptied from the product by opening the draining valve (6).
The valve will release all water from the bag and all water that remains inside the isolated plumbing appliance and its connecting pipe work. The product is then removed from the pipe work.

Claims (4)

CLAIMS 1. A plumbing product consisting of a watertight seal and bag attached to a main body that can be fitted around water pipe work. 2. A main body as claimed in Claim 1 where a hinge enables the product to be opened up (so that items of equipment such as a pipe cutting device and an isolating valve can be placed inside the bag) and then closed around the pipe 3. A main body as claimed in Claim 1 or 2 where a locking mechanism enables the watertight seal and bag to be locked into place around the live 4. A main body as claimed in any preceding Claim where a draining valve enables water that collects within the watertight bag and water that is inside an isolated plumbing appliance to be drained from the product. 5. A plumbing product substantially herein described above and illustrated in the accompanying drawings. Amendments to the claims iave been filed as follows: CLAIMS
1. A plumbing product consisting of a watertight seal and bag aftached to a main body, in which a hinge on the main body enables the main body to be opened up so that items of equipment can be placed inside the bag, and then closed and secured around live water pipe work.
2. A plumbing product as claimed in Claim 1 where a locking mechanism enables a watertight seal and bag to be locked into place around live water pipe work at any point along its length.
3. A plumbing product as claimed in any preceding Claim that incorporates a draining valve in order to enable water that collects within the watertight bag and water that is inside an isolated plumbing appliance to be drained from the valve.
4. A plumbing product substantially herein described above and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
