Abstract
An anti-theft device for a vehicle, particularly a heavy goods vehicle, can be diametrically and releasably secured to the rim (G) of a steering wheel to limit its rotation. The device has an elongate shaft with, at one end of the shaft, a hook shaped member (D) and a rod (E) perpendicular to the shaft for receiving the rim of the steering wheel and for limiting movement of the shaft in both horizontal and vertical directions. Towards the other end of the shaft, two formed jaws (I) are provided for fitting around the wheel rim (G). The jaws are slidably mounted for positional adjustment along the shaft by means of tubular members (B, C) and can be secured around the wheel rim by means of a padlock (H). A plate (F) may be provided at a point between the rim-receiving members to prevent removal of the wheel from the steering column.
Description
DESCRIPTION H.G.V
ANTI THEFT DEVICE
The design of this invention is to deter and prevent a thief from stealing a H.G.V or a vehicle of similar steering design.
Figi Fig 2 Letter G Easily fitting anti theft device as it is mounted across the steering wheel engaging at one end covering the centre of the steering wheel with a protective plate and clamping the other end of the wheel with the formed jaws.
Letter D & E BY being interlocked at one end this prevents the device from being removed in either a horizontal or vertical movement.
Letter F The centre protective plate will ensure that the steering wheel cannot be removed.
Letter I At the other end of the device the formed jaws are designed to clasp the steering wheel LetterB& C The jaws are attached to sliding tubes that will allow adjustment to suit any type of steering wheel.
Letter H Once the formed jaws are positioned around the steering wheel a padlock of a barrel design would be fitted. Using this type of padlock would prevent the thief from being able to gain access to the pin of the padlock. 2.
Letter A The tubes that allow adjustment would be positioned on an elongated bar.
With operator friendly rubber grips at either end to ensure that the trim of the wheel would not be damaged when locating the device onto the wheel. It would also ensure that the jaws could not slide off the bar when removing to store.
The whole device with exception to the padlock and grips would be dipped in a very bright plastic coat making the device very visible and cosmetically very smart and more importantly very hard wearing. 3.
Claims (1)
- No. 1/A The body is elongated shaft it has a first and second end, in this embodiment No. 2/D A hook shaped bar is fixed at one end.No. 3/F A security plate is fixed to the main body to cover the central area of the steering wheel. This is to prevent the thief from removing the steering wheel.No. 4/B/C These are formed shape's that will close around the steering wheel and will be locked together securing and immobilising the vehicle. That are attached to the sliding tubes on claim No. 5 No. 5/B/C These are hollow tubes that will be attached to the main body and also to the formed jaws. This will allow the jaws to accommodate many different types of steering wheels, and to adjust to any size of steering wheel.No.6/F This is elongated shaft fixed to the main body, which prevents movement in horizontal plane left to right. No.7The Anti-Theft Device will be case hardened to repel any heavy or sharp objects that would be used to remove the Anti-Theft Device. 4.. No.8The Anti-Theft Device - it's final stage of its manufacture would in corporate it being powder coated which would give it a hard but smooth finish to it's exterior surface. No.9At its first end of the body there would be a rubber sleeve to prevent the jaws from sliding off and also to be operator friendly.No.10/H An Anti-Theft Device substantially has been described and illustrated In the accompanying figures also including a picture of a barrel padlock, which enclose through the sliding jaws.
