Abstract
A lock is provided which is used to secure a vehicle, most suitably a quad bike. A base member 10 is secured to the ground. The quadbike is wheeled into the lock and secured by suitable structures, most preferably by a plurality of hooks 16,18 that grip the back axle of the quad bike. A gate 20 is then closed and locked with a known portable lock 28, which is protected by a covering to hinder tampering with the portable lock. The gate comprises a plate member 30 that engages with the front end of the quad bike to further increase the security of the lock.
Description
-' 1 2398281 1 Lock 3 The present invention relates to a lock, in 4
particular but not exclusively to a lock for a quad bike.
7 According to the present invention there is provided 8 a lock for securing an object, the lock comprising a 9 base member, an object attachment member and a gate member.
12 Preferably, the gate member is movable between an 13 open position and a closed position.
In the open position, the lock can receive an object 16- ;to be secured by the lock, and the gate is moved to 17 the closed position to secure the object in the 18 lock, ?:.# :.
Preferably, the object attachment member is of a 21 shape suitable to grip a part of the object to be 22 secured by the lock.
J
1 Preferably, the gate member comprises two posts and 2 a bar member having a first end hinged at a first 3 post such that it is capable of rotating about the 4 first post.
6 Preferably, a second end of the bar member comprises 7 locking means cooperable with corresponding locking 8 means on a second post.
When the bar member is rotated such that the gate 11 member is in its closed position, the locking means 12 of the bar member and the second post can be 13 selectively engaged and disengaged to secure and 14 release an object secured by the device.
16 Preferably, the base member is suitable for 17 attachment to a ground surface.
19 Preferably, the base member is suitable to be rawlbolted to the ground surface.
22 Preferably, the base member comprises object 23 reception means to support an object to be secured.
Preferably, the object to be secured by the lock is 26 a vehicle, most preferably a quad bike.
28 Preferably, the object attachment member comprises a 29 plurality of hooks suitable for gripping an axle of the quad bike. )
1 The present invention will now be described, by way 2 of example only, with reference to the accompanying 3 drawings, in which: Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of the lock; and 7 Fig. 2 shows a front perspective view of the lock.
9 The specific embodiment shown in the drawings relates to a lock suitable for securing a quad bike 11 or the like. However, it will be appreciated that 12 the inventive concept is applicable for securing 13 other types of vehicles or objects.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, a base member 10 is 16 rawlbolted to the floor, and includes two wheel 17 trays 12, each suitable to receive wheels of a quad 18 bike (not shown).
An object attachment member 14 is integrally formed 21 with the base member 10, comprising two hooked 22 portions 16, 18. The hooked portions 16, 18 are 23 shaped suitably to receive an axle or other 24 appropriate part of a quad bike to be secured.
26 A gate member 20 comprises a first post 22, a second 27 post 24, and a bar member 26. The bar member 26 is 28 hinged to the first post 22, swinging around it from 29 an open to a closed position. Figs. 1 and 2 illustrate the bar member 26 in the closed position.
31 When the bar member 26 is in the closed position, 32 the lock itself is in its closed position. )
1 The gate member 20 is also integrally formed with 2 the base member 10. The second post 24 comprises a 3 known lock 28 for securing the bar member 26 thereto 4 when the bar member 26 is put to a position abutting the second post 24.
7 In operation, the base member 10 is fastened to the 8 ground at a suitable location. The lock 28 is 9 unlocked, the gate 20 is swung open and a quad bike to be secured is wheeled into the body of the lock, 11 with the wheel trays 12 acting as guides for the 12 wheels of the quad bike. The back axle of the quad 13 bike is then located in the hooks of the hooked 14 portions 16, 18. The gate 20 is then swung shut and the lock 28 is fastened. A protective cover 16 surrounds the lock 28 to protect the lock 28 from 17 being tampered with.
19 The bar member 26 also further comprises a locking plate 30 which engages with the front end of the 21 quad bike when it is in the lock.
23 Thus, the present invention provides a secure lock 24 for preventing theft of a quad bike.
26 Various modifications and improvements may be made 27 without departing from the scope of the present 28 invention. In particular, the principles of the 29 invention may be applied for securing objects other than quad bikes. j\
