Abstract
242,213. Glaswerke Ruhr Akt.-Ges. Nov. 1, 1924, [Convention date]. Shaping glassware after formation.-Relates to a machine of the kind described in Specification 177,884 for forming an open-ended tube into two tubes with closed ends, such as tablet tubes. According to the invention, the closed ends of the tubes are flattened by means which prevent them from being spread out or deformed. The ends of the tubes are flattened by means of plates a, Fig. 1, fixed to the inner sides of the bars b that lift the finished tubes away from the place at which they are formed, as described in the earlier Specification. A glass tube c, Figs. 1 and 3, rests on and is rotated by rollers 1 while it is being heated at the middle by a burner 21. After it has been heated sufficiently, the rollers 1 are separated to draw the ends of the tube apart and form two tubes having closed ends. When the separation is complete, the bars b are raised so that the plates a stand between the closed ends of the tubes: the rollers 1 are then moved inwards so that the ends of the tubes are pressed against the plates a and are flattened. The tubes are held in contact with the rollers 1 by means of discs 5 which are pressed against the tubes by springs. The pressure is adjusted to such an amount that when the tubes are brought up to the plates a, the rollers 1 will slide along the tube if the pressure of the tubes against the plates becomes excessive, thus preventing the flat bottoms formed on the tubes from being spread out.
