Abstract

A user sends a photograph of himself to a service centre at which a secure barcode is generated and stitched to the photo to generate a composite ID. The machine readable code (barcode) is associated with the user's profile. The composite image is then sent to the user's mobilephone so as to provide him with an ID.

Description

Mobile Phone Based Id System Definitions * Subscrther: user with a mobile
phone.
* Multimedia messaging service (MMS): Mobile phone messaging service allows messages to be sent that include still graphics, animated graphics, text and audio.
* Service Centse: central computer system receiving registrations and delivering content.
* Barcode: machine readable code including but not limited to public domain linear and 2 dimensional barcode formats.
* Picture: a computer graphics file displaying biometric information about a subscriber - for example a portrait photograph.
* Id: Combined Picture and Barcode message sent to a mobile.
* Barcode scanner: a machine capable of, but not limited to, reading and/or decoding a barcode.
Description
A picture is received by a Service Centre over, but not limited to, an email or multimedia messaging service.
This picture, which may be validated for clarity and format, is associated to the subscriber's profile.
A secure barcode is generated by the Service Centre using an appropriate symbology including, but not limited to, linear codes, stacked codes, and matrix codes.
The data embedded within this barcode is associated to the subscriber's profile.
The barcode element is stitched into the picture to build a composite image (the Id) that can be sent to a mobile phone.
The Id is then sent to the subscriber's phone via, but not limited to MMS as a standalone message or as part of a message sequence.
The Id can be validated by a visual inspection of the picture and/or machine validation of the barcode. Subsequent operations of the validation process may include, but not limited to, displaying the subscriber's profile information (including picture) on a security workstation.

  4. 4. According to claim 3, i subscriber may generated their own picture using a camera phone and send it directly to the central computer using the phone's messaging service.
  5. 5. According to claim 1, the barcode and picture are combined into a single image ("the Id") suitable for transmission to a mobile phone.
  6. 6. Said Id is sent to the subscriber as a message capable of displaying on a mobile phone.
  7. 7. Said Id can then be used for access or authorisation with visual inspection of the picture and/or machine reading of the barcode.
    a. Said Id can be used as, but not limited to, Loyalty Cards, Tickets and Access Passes.
