Peeling and washing fruit and vegetables.-A machine for peeling, skinning, and washing vegetables and fruit comprises a stationary receptacle which is larger at one end than at the other and abrading discs revoluble therein. In Fig. 1, the receptacle 1 is cone-shaped, is lined with stabbed metal, and consists of two portions, the upper cover portion 3 being removable. A shaft 5, surrounded by a relatively revoluble abrading tube 14, extends centrally through the receptacle and carries plates 6, 7, the inner surfaces of which are covered with stabbed metal, in one plane piece or in segments provided with radial projections or flutings 11. Brushes of wire or bristle may be used in combination with the stabbed metal linings on the discs. The part 3 may be hinged to the base portion of the receptacle, and the shaft 5 being loosely mounted in bearings 12 is prevented from lifting, when the handle 8 is turned, by a gravity catch member 13 which engages under the bottom of the receptacle. Inspection holes may be provided in the cover 3. The receptacle may be made of double-cone shape, the large diameter being in the middle. Two small end discs and one large central disc are then used.
