Planing; moulding.-The bearings c of the feed rolls a, b, of a planing or like machine are vertically adjustable in guides, the upper rolls a being carried in a. housing f which is itself vertically adjustable by hand-operated worm gear i, whilst it' can be set at a slight angle to the fence 8 by loosening bolts k. In the case of the lower rolls the adjusting screws 5 at the ends of each roll shaft are connected by a chain (not shown). The bottom rolls are driven by a chain 3 and the top rolls by a chain 4 with jockey pulleys m, l, both chains being driven by a pinion on a counter shaft 2 geared to the machine spindle y. This spindle is started by tightening a belt q by rocking a housing t in which the belt pulley r is carried.
