Abstract

A container 2 comprises an inner container 4 for a product and a sleeve 6 of folded plastics material arranged around the inner container 4. The inner container 4 may be a paperboard tray and may itself contain a blow moulded insert with wells 12 to receive items of confectionery. The plastics sleeve 6 may be a transparent, optionally decorated, open-ended sleeve of polypropylene. It may have been formed by folding a band around on itself and securing its ends together, and is optionally secured to the container 4 by releasable means such as adhesive.

83736 210 2418900 Packaging The present invention relates to packaging and
in particular to composite packaging.
The packaging designer is constantly striving for ways in which to present goods in a practical and attractive manner to consumers. The present invention seeks to provide packaging which goes some way to achieving that goal.
According to the invention there is provided a container comprising an inner container for a product and a sleeve of folded plastics material arranged around the inner container.
Preferably the sleeve is open ended.
Preferably the plastics sleeve is transparent or translucent such that the contents of the inner container can be viewed through the sleeve.
The sleeve may be decorated, for example having a printed decoration applied to it.
Preferably the sleeve is made from polypropylene.
Preferably the sleeve is formed from a sheet of material which has been creased, folded and bonded into a tubular configuration.
Preferably the inner container is a tray for containing product, e.g. confectionery The tray may comprise an insert, for example a blow moulded plastics insert for receiving the product.
Preferably the inner container is made from paperboard or other board material.
Preferably the sleeve is secured to the inner container by releasable, e. g. frangible means such as adhesive, allowing the sleeve to be removed from the inner container to gain access to the product.
25. A preferred embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 shows a container incorporating the present invention; Figure 2 shows the inner tray of the container of Figure 1; and Figure 3 shows the sleeve of the container of Figure 1.
Referring to the Figures, a container 2 comprises a paperboard tray 4 received within an open ended sleeve 6.
The tray 4 is of a conventional construction and it receives a blow moulded insert 8 having a plurality of wells 10 for receiving product such as confectionery 12.
The sleeve 6 is formed from a plastics material such as polypropylene. The sleeve G is preferably formed from a flat sheet of material which is creased, folded and glued into a tubular shape.
The sleeve 6 is transparent or translucent so that the contents of the tray may be viewed. It may also be printed decoratively.
The sleeve 6 may be secured on the tray by means not shown, for example adhesive or adhesive strip. The securing means is releasable to allow the sleeve to be removed to gain access to the container's contents.
The invention thus provides a simple, but visually attractive container. /

  1. Claims I. A container comprising an inner container for a product and a
    sleeve of folded plastics material arranged around the inner container.
  2. 2 A container according to claim I wherein the plastics sleeve is open ended.
  3. 3. A container according to claim I or 2 wherein the plastics sleeve is transparent or I O translucent.
  4. 4. A container according to claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein the sleeve is decorated
  5. 5. A container according to any preceding claim wherein the sleeve is made form 1 5 polypropylene.
  6. 6. A container according to any preceding claim wherein the sleeve is formed from a sheet of material which has been creased, folded and bonded into a tubular configuration
  7. 7. A container according to any preceding claim wherein the inner container is a tray
  8. 8. A container according to any preceding claim wherein the inner container is made from paperboard or other board material.
  9. 9. A container according to any preceding claim wherein the sleeve is secured to the inner container by releasable means.
