Abstract

A fitment 5 for an injection device 1 which delivers fly repellent at or near the injection site. Preferably the fitment 5 is attached to the end of a collapsible syringe sleeve 3, or it may be attached to the syringe. The fitment 5 may contain, or be comprised of foam or a similar material that absorbs repellent. Alternatively the fitment 5 may be a spray can either as part of a marking system or as a separate delivery system. The fitment 5 may be replaceable or it may be topped up with repellant, and it may be adapted to suit any type of syringe 1. The repellent may be of any type that deters or repels insects. The fitment 5 may be used for animal, human, plant or tree injections and it may also contain a wound healing fluid.

Description

1 2416696 Iniection Fly-repellent & wound healing Placement device: Patent
aPpilcation 25 July 2004.
Background of the invention
This invention relates to fitments for injection devices of the kind in which injection liquid is delivered either though a hollow needle or using a needless device. Such devices are used for injecting humans, animals, trees, fruit or vegetables, for example.
Farmers have for many years given Injections to animals for a variety of preventative and curative reasons. The injectable is administered for a specific purpose however the way the injectable works may be affected by a variety of outside factors such as the cleanliness of the needle, cleanliness of the injection site, stress level of the animal, irritation and infection at the injection sites through flies being attracted to the wound etc...
There are devices available for some of these issues, such as the Sterimatic needle cleaning system, however this invention is intended to keep flies away from the injection site and perhaps also add a wound healing cream which will reduce stress and irritation of the animal as well as reducing possible complications of infection or perhaps egglaying in or nearby the injection site.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
According to the invention there is provided a fitment for attachment to an injection device of the kind in which injection liquid is delivered through a hollow needle or needle-free device, the fitment comprising means for administering a fly repellent at or nearby the injection site.
The ftment may comprise of a container that holds a foam insert or similar material, soaked in the repellent.
The ftment may also contain a wound healing cream or fluid to speed the healing of the tissue at the injection site.
The fitment may be attached to the syringe or into a retractable sleeve that surrounds the needle and thereby places the fly-repellent near to the injection site.
With some syringes there is an existing attachment that automatically sprays a marker colour onto the animal. This invention may also include the addition of the fly-repellent into a spray can so that it can either be sprayed onto the animal at the same time as the marker colour or separately.
The repellent may be any type of chemical or natural fluid or paste or any such components that may make any species of fly or insect either not go near the injection site or would encourage them to leave the area of the injection site.
The invention does not relate to any specific type of syringe and would ideally be adaptable to all types of syringe either currently on the market or new designs The Invention is primarily aimed at the animal health market although there may be applications wherever an injection is given i.e. for Human or plant injections.

Description of Me drawings
Items, 1 = Syringe (Any type for dispensing a dose). 2 = Spring, 3= retractable sleeve, 4 = delivery path, needle or needless. 5 = the ftment that contains the fly repellent relating to the invention, 6 = connector between the plunger and operating mechanism on the spray can.
Fig. 1 Fitment attached to retractable sleeve.
The standard set-up of a multi-dose syringe may consist of a syringe (1) and needle (4).
Around the needle is fitted a retractable sleeve (3). Into the end of the sleeve (3) is placed the ftment (5) that contains the foam insert soaked in fly-repellent.
When the needle (4) is presented to the animal, the ftment (5) firstly is pushed against the animal and the fly repellent is automatically placed onto the skin near the injection site. Whilst this occurs the sleeve (3) retracts and the needle (4) is exposed entering the animal. After the injection has been given the needle (4) is withdrawn, as it does so the spring (2) pushes the sleeve (4) forwards and in doing so the sleeve (4) and fitment (5) are located back in front of the needle at the rest position, ready for the next injection.
Fig. 2: Fitrnent attached to Syringe The standard set-up of a muHi-dose syringe may consist of a syringe (1) and needle (4).
Around the end of the syringe the fitment (5) that contains the foam insert soaked in fly repellent may be attached.
The needle (4) is inserted into the animal, when the needle (4) is inserted the fitment (5) then touches the skin of the animal and deposits the fly repellent around the injection site.
Fig 3: Fly-repellent in spray can attached to the syringe.
There are syringes (1) available that have an attachment (6) allowing a spray can (5) to be attached. When the dose is delivered via either a needle or needle-less method, the spray can is automatically triggered and a colour marker is placed on the animal to show that it has been injected.
Either as a separate spray can or with the repellent mixed with the colouring, the repellent is held within the pressurised spray can and delivered in the same way.

Claims (1)

  1. 4. Claims 1. A fly repellent fitment for an injection device of the kind
in which injection liquid is delivered through a hollow needle or needle-free device, the fitment being provided to apply the repellent at or nearby the site of injection.
    2. A fitment that may be fitted into a collapsible sleeve comprising two telescoping tubes for surrounding the needle. The fitment fits into the end of the tube so that before the needle enters the animal the repellent is automatically placed at the Injection site.
    3. The fitment may contain or simply be a foam or similar absorbent material that will hold the repellent in place on the syringe.
The ftment may be a spray can either as part of a marking system or as a delivery system on its own.
    5. The fitment may be a replaceable item or it may be a device that can be topped up from a separate reservoir of repellent.
    6. The repellent used may be any type of chemical or natural fluid or paste or any such components that may make any species of fly or insect either not go near the injection site or would encourage them to leave the area of the injection site.
    7. The fitment is not specific to any type of syringe and will ideally be adaptable to ail types of current and future syringe.
    8. The fitment may be used wherever an injection is given, Animals, Humans, Plants, trees.
    9. The foment may also contain a wound healing cream or fluid to speed up the healing of tissue at the injection site.
