Abstract

The inner tube is in the form of a rubber sausage that is molded into a circular shape with overlapping ends. It can be manufactured to fit any wheel size. The internal pressures, when inflated and the external pressure of the restraining outer tyre enable the inner tube to maintain its shape and support. The main advantage of the inner tube is that it can be replaced without any need to remove the wheel from its mounting. This greatly eases and speeds up the replacement of a faulty inner tube.

Description

Description 1
Easy Tube
General Description.
The Easy Tube is a new design in inner tubes for use on bicycles, tricycles, tandems and for all other forms of transport, where an inner tube is used within an outer tyre.
The essential difference between the Easy Tube and a conventional inner tube is that the Easy Tube can be replaced without any need to remove the wheel from its mounting. The cyclist who is suddenly stranded by a leak or puncture will find that the Easy Tube will make it much easier and faster to effect the replacement and to recommence their journey. The design has no limitation on size of wheel for which it may be used. Both the wheel diameter and its width can be accommodated by suitable scaling of the basic Easy Tube model.
Essential features of the Easy Tube The Easy Tube will be manufactured using conventional inner tube making technology. It differs however from the conventional inner tube in that it is not formed into a continuous loop. The Easy Tube is in fact similar to a long rubber sausage formed into a circle as shown in diagram 1, it should be noted that the most convenient position for the ends is diametrically opposite to the inner tube filling connector. The two ends of the tube can take two forms. The first form for the ends considered, is a tapering wedge shape and is shown in diagram 2. The second form for the ends is step shaped and is shown in diagram 3.
In both end forms, the ends overlap each other to complete and form the precise circular shape that fits into the host outer tyre. Velcro strips are attached to the overlapping portions at the tube ends, as indicated in diagram 4. These Velcro strips are used to help hold the Easy Tube in position when installing and inflating the inner tube within the tyre.
To replace a faulty or leaking inner tube it is only necessary to leverage off one wall of the outer tyre. Once this has been done the faulty inner tube is removed. If a conventional inner tube, this can be accomplished by cutting through the inner tube, removing it and discarding it. If it is an Easy Tube, it can be removed by separating the ends by breaking open the Velcro join. The faulty Easy Tube can then be retained and repaired at a convenient time and location. A new Easy Tube is inserted into the outer tube, feeding the filler connector through the usual hole in the wheel. The Easy Tube is then fed under the outer tyre all around the wheel and the circular shape is completed by joining the Velcro ends. A partial fill of the Easy Tube will ease the work of returning the outer tyre wall back into the tyre housing on the wheel. Once the outer tyre is back in position the tyre can be fully inflated. The internal pressure within the Easy Tube and the outer tyre itself will ensure that the Easy Tube will maintain its circular shape and provide the same reliable support as a conventional inner tube throughout the full 360 circumfrence.

Claims (3)

  1. Easy Tube Claims 1. The Easy Tube permits replacement of an inner tube
without having to remove the wheel from its mounting.
  2. 2. The Easy Tube reduces the time and effort required to replace a faulty or leaking inner tube.
  3. 3. The Easy Tube reduces the number of tools that needs to be carried to effect inner tube replacement.
