Abstract
A clamp for insertion into a hollow receiving element, in particular a motorcycle headstock or steering assembly, has an upper member 1 and a lower member 2, together with a tightening element 7, which may be threaded, that passes through an axial bore provided in the two members. The wedge-shaped ends 11 of the upper and lower members which form their common interface are angled complementarily and are adapted to slide past each other as the tightening element 7 is tightened into the lower member 2. As a result, the upper and lower members become offset axially within the hollow body, providing a clamping action on the inner wall of the hollow receiving element. The tightening element 7 may have a connection device having the facility to accept an accessory mounting platform.

Description
MOTORCYCLE, MOTORISED TRICYCLE OR MOTORISED SCOOTER
CLAMPING SYSTEM FOR MOUNTING ACCESSORIES INTO OR ONTO
HOLLOW ELEMENTS IN THE COCKPIT/STEERING AREA OF THE
VEHICLE
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a clamp for insertion into a motorcycle, motorised tricycle or motorised scooter cockpiVsteering hollow element, such as the headstock or any shaped hollow recesses, assemblies, tubes, pipes.
Primary material being Aluminium but not necessarily restricted to aluminium, any other suitable material could be used. For example; metals, alloys, plastics, nylon materials, rubber materials.
The clamp having various amounts of elements having angled cuts at the same degree angles, so that when tightened all elements of the clamp become offset to provide a clamping action on the inner wall of the hollow receiving element, the more elements used the greater the surface area is covered for the clamp to make contact with.
All elements can be smooth or have a roughened outer surface to allow initial grip to be achieved on the clamp receptacle walls. The roughening could be knurled, scored, sanded, scratched, or any form of markings, or any form of adhesive or bonding materials.
The latter element in the clamp system having a facility to accept a tightening device, this could be a threaded element into a threaded receptacle or into a non-threaded flange facility, which can be secured by another method. The upper element having a flanged top, which enables suitable positioning of the clamp and prevention of loss of the clamp within the hollow receiving element, this could also be used without a flanged top to allow greater depth insertion into the receiving element.
The mounting element having the facility to accept an accessory mounting system, this could be a ball system, knuckle system, ball joint, 't' piece or any number of alternate methods.
Clamps do not exist which provide a simple and stable accessory mounting facility for connection to hollow motorcycle, motorised tricycle or motorised scooter cockpiVsteering elements.
It would therefore be desirable and advantageous to provide an appropriate accessory mounting clamp which allows the mounting of accessories in a stable and secure manner to the front steering/cockpit area of a motorcycle, motorised tricycle or motorised scooter.
The invention will now be further described by way of figure examples with reference to the accompanying drawings in which; Fig. 1 Shows a view of the clamp according to the present invention in an assembled state with a top flange but without a bottom flange Fig. 1 a Shows a view of the alternate top element without a flange Fig. 1b Shows a view of the alternate bottom element with a flange Fig. 1 c Shows a view of the extension elements for use in all clamp assembly variations Fig. 2 Shows a view of the clamp according to the present invention in an assembled state without a top flange and without a bottom flange Fig. 3 Shows a view of the clamp according to the present invention in an assembled state with a top flange and a bottom flange Fig. 4 Shows a view of the clamp according to the present invention in an assembled state without a top flange but with a bottom flange Throughout all of the Figures, same or corresponding elements are indicated by the same reference numerals.
As shown in figures 1,1a, 1 b and 1c, the clamp in its assembled state with the various clamp assembly elements. The clamp includes an upper element 1, which has an angled cut at the bottom, a lower element 2, which has an angled cut at the top, additional extension elements to extend surface area if necessary 3, all of which have an angled cut 11, at the top and bottom, the angles on all elements of the clamp system are at the same degree which allows an offset movement to be achieved when tightened against each other.
The top element can have a flanged element 4, to allow the clamp to be arranged flush with the receiving receptacle and to prevent loss of the clamp by withdrawing into the same receiving receptacle. The top element can also be used without a flange 5, to allow greater depth insertion into the receiving receptacle.
The lower element 2, can have a bored and threaded receptacle 6, to accept a tightening device 7, or a threaded or unthreaded flanged base 8, to allow alternate securing methods to be used. All clamp elements, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8 are formed hollow but wider than the threaded receptacle 6 in the lower element 2 or the flanged base 8, and the tightening device 7 to allow the offset movement to be achieved.
The tightening element 7 having the facility 9, to accept an accessory mounting system and a cosmetic facility, 10.
