Abstract

An avocado slice and stone remover comprises a base (01) that supports a moving blade (05) onto which the avocado (06) is placed. A pivot arm (04) with a similar opposing blade (11) is brought into place over the avocado to slice it and hold it. The avocado stone (07) is removed by means of one of two pins (02) which penetrate the skin and push the stone away from the adjacent half of the avocado which is pushed in the opposite direction by the closed blades. The other pin penetrates the other half of the avocado and pushes the stone from that half which is held against the blade.

Description

24 1 3755 AVOCADO SLICE & STONE REMOVER If an avocado is to be used In
recipes calling for it to be halved and de-stoned, it needs to be cut cleanly and In equal parts. The stone should be removed cleanly without removing any avocado, leaving a smooth hole the shape of the stone This can be a difficult operation and present danger to the person attempting this with a knife of similar tool.
To aid this operation the Invention allows a person to slice the avocado and then separate it into two halves and remove the stone, without the need of holding the avocado or using any other tool The device allows the avocado to be separated cleanly in a straight line at its middle.
The device will allow the stone to be removed cleanly and without loss of avocado flesh with the stone The resulting two halves should be in their optimum condition for presentation The device offers safety for the operator as the avocado does not have to be held by hand nor is a knife or other tool used.
Figure 1 shows a side view of the device with pivot assembly (04) In the vertical position and with an avocado and stone (06-07) placed in position. The clamp arm (09) is shown raised into its vertical position.
Figure 2 Is a front elevation of figure 1.
Figure 3 Is the plan view of figures 1 & 2.
figure 4 shows a side view of the clamp arm (09) pivoting downwards over the avocado (06).
Figure 5 shows a side view of the clamp arm (09) closed over the avocado and pulled forward on pivot (03) to allow it to be pivoted sideways over the stone remover pins (02).
Figure 6 shows a front elevation with the pivot assembly (04) together with the clamp arm (09) avocado (06) and stone (07) lowered onto one of the two pins (02).
Figure 7 shows a front elevation with the pivot assembly (04) together with the clamp arm (09) avocado (06) and stone (07) lowered onto the other pin (02). This view shows the half of the avocado separated in figure 7 remaining on the stone separator pin.
Figure 8 shows a front elevation of the pivot assembly (04) and clamp arm (04) raised as in figure 6 but with the two halves of the avocado separated and resting on the pins (02).
Figure 9 shows a side view of the dowel pin (12), which holds the pivot assembly (04) in the vertical position so that the avocado (06) can be sliced safely.
The device consists of a base (01), which is designed to sit on a stable base such as a kitchen worktop This base includes a pivot shaft (03), which Is attached to the rear of the base and two vertical stone removing pins (02) located either side of the pivot See figure 1.
A pivot arm assembly (04) is mounted on the pivot (03), the purpose of the arm Is to lower over each pin in turn, it Is fitted with a blade (05) onto which the avocado (06) Is manually pushed. The blade Is shaped with a cut-out of a size commensurate with an avocado stone (07).
Fitted onto the pivot arm assembly (04) by means of a pivot pin (08), is a clamp assembly (09). This clamp assembly can be opened and closed relative to pivot assembly (04) with the aid of the handle (10) The clamp (09) is fitted with an opposing blade to that on the pivot arm (04) so that once closed as shown In figure 5; it separates the avocado (06).
The device Is placed on a suitable work surface, with the pivot (03) fixed end away from the operator. To operate the device it is first set into its vertical position figures 1 & 2 by pivoting the clamp arm (09) and pivot assembly (04) In their closed condition upright and pushing them backward onto the retaining dowel (12) figure 10. The pivoting parts are now retained in a vertical position and the clamp arm (09) can be opened. The clamp arm (09) will stay in a vertical position so that the pivot blade (05) Is exposed Place the avocado (06) onto the pivot blade (05) with its centre over the stone (07) cut-out and its axis horizontal so that the blade cuts through the centre of the avocado The avocado Is pushed down over the blade so that the blade penetrates to a half way point.
The clamp assembly (09) Is lowered over the avocado (06) so that blade (11) closes onto opposing blade (05) and dissects the avocado as shown In figure 5.
The closed blades and avocado (04-11) are now pulled toward the operator to disengage dowel (12) and allow the parts to be pivoted to one side or the other. Using handle (10) the avocado Is lowered onto one of the stone removing pins (02) as shown In figure 7.
Once contact is made with the pin (02), the handle is pushed a little further so that the lower half of the avocado is separated and falls to the base of the pin (02). The unit is raised taking care to hold the other half of the avocado In position on the blades (05 & 11) and lowered onto the other stone removing pin (02) see figure 8. When the pin is in contact with the avocado the handle (10) is lowered a little more, the stone can be lifted clear and the second half of the avocado falls onto the pin (02). The pivoting parts can be raised to the vertical position and pushed back onto retaining dowel (12), leaving the two halves of the avocado on the pins (02) as shown In figure 9.

Claims (2)

1. An avocado slice and stone remover comprising of a base which supports
a moving blade together with a similar opposing closing blade both with cut-outs commensurate with an avocado stone size to slice the avocado into two sections
2. A base as in claim 1 that is fitted with stone removing pins each which can be moved relative to the avocado and blade assembly so that they can be made to penetrate the avocado skin and contact the stone within 3 A base with stone removing pins as in claim 2 into which the avocado within blades can be pressed so that either pin penetrates the skin and pushes the stone whilst the section of avocado being so penetrated is supported and is pushed in the opposing direction by the closed blades.
4 An avocado slice and stone remover as in any of the above claims which has a location device to retain the moving blades in a fixed position whilst the avocado is sliced.
