Abstract

A spacer is a disc shape with an upstanding cross at its centre. The disc supports ceramic tiles at their corners. The cross ensures an even gap between adjacent tiles through correct positioning. The spacer is made from a shock-absorbing material, this allows ceramic tiles to be laid directly onto unstable floor boards, without requiring an intermediate plywood sub-floor. In use, the tiles are easy to lift and replace. Extra tick spacers may be used in association with under-floor heating.

Description

Ceramic Floor Tile Cushioned Spacer System.
Description.
The invention relates to the laying of ceramic floor tiles without the use of hard adhesives, with the flexibility to incorporate under floor heating.
Normally when ceramic floor tiles are laid on wooden floorboards, for example in an upstairs bathroom, one would require 1 8mm Plywood screwed to the floorboards to prevent the floorboards from moving and therefore preventing the hard adhesive from cracking and consequently the tiles lifting.
The object of this invention is to enable the floor tiles to be laid without the adhesive or the Plywood and thus lowering the finished floor level and also reducing the price and speed of the job.
This invention provides a system for laying floor tiles on round shockabsorbing discs which space the tiles and counter-balance the movement of the floorboards.
The discs can be made thicker in depth so that the void between the tile and the floorboard can be increased to take under floor heating, for example in a conservatory.
The system also allows the tiles to be lifted easily after any damage or breakages.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Fig 1 shows the plan (aerial view).
Fig 2 is a side elevation showing the spacer on the disc.
Fig 3 shows how it will be used in conjunction with the ceramic floor tiles.
As shown in Fig 1 the entire disc is made of a one-piece rubber compound with a raised cross which is smaller than the disc.
The elevation of the cross is shown in Fig 2.
Fig 3 shows the positioning of the disc between the ceramic tiles.
