HINGE ASSEMBLY IN A DOOR
The present Invention relates to a door and has particular reference to a hinge assembly of the door.
Devices with holding means for fastening two or more hinges to closure flaps or cooking appliance doors are known. In that case each of the hinges is screw-connected with a door panel by way of a respective holding means constructed as a socket unit, the socket units being glued to the panel.
There Is a need for a means by which an advantageous matching of mounting positions of the hinges can be secured.
According to the present Invention there is provided a device with at least one holding means for fastening at least two hinges to a closure flap, particularly to a cooking appliance door, the holding means being provided for the purpose of connecting the at least two hinges to form a mounting unit.
In that case the at least two hinges adopt a well-defned position relative to one another, thus a predetermined spaced-apart relationship, whereby matching of the mounting positions of the hinges to a closure flap can be achieved. Additional advantages can result with respect to stability of the closure flap. A force transmission, transmitted by the holding means, between the hinges can reduce loading of the closure flap.
By "provided" there shall be understood in this connection also "designed" and "furnished".
The closure flap can be any flap or door, with a flat extent, which is provided for pivotable fastening in front of an opening and can, In its extent, cover the opening. The holding means, which [unction as connecting means, can be designed for fastening the hinges to a closure flap complete up to the hinges or, however, for fastening of the hinges to a component, for example a frame, a door leaf or a door pane, extending at least substantially over the area extent of the closure flap. Such a component shall in this connection be termed door leaf. The door leaf can be provided for the purpose of holding further components of the closure flap. The holding means is preferably fastened in a region of the pivot axis of the closure flap or the door leaf and is advantageously resl.:led in its extent to such a region. As mounting unit there shall be understood in this connection a sub-unit of the device which can be mounted in a first method step and is provided for connection with further sub-units in a second method step.
A particularly convenient pivoting open and closed of the closure flap can be achieved if the holding means holds the at least two hinges in a configuration In which the pivot axes of the hinges are at least substantially coincident or in alignment.
If the holding means has an elongate form and is fastened to the closure flap in its longitudinal extent at least substantially parallel to a pivot axis of the closure flap a particularly lightweight and stable closure flap can be achieved. The holding means can in that case represent, In the region of the pivot axis, a basis for mounting essential parts of the closure flap, i e. parts extending over an area extent of the closure flap. Material- saving and weight-saving opportunities arise when the holding means is restricted in its physical extent to a region of the pivot axis.
If the holding means fastens the two hinges to a closure flap which comprises at least one viewing pane then the holding means serves to avoid direct transmission of temperature- induced movement of the pane to the hinges, whereby material stresses in the pane can at least be reduced.
Such material stresses can be avoided when the closure flap is a cooking appliance door which in use is exposed to substantial temperature differences and/or temperature gradients.
In principle a pane, for example an inner pane or an outer pane, can then be held at the closure flap by a separate holding means. Cost-saving potentials can result when the holding means for holding a pane, particularly an inner pane, is provided at the closure flap.
If the holding means fastens the closure flap to a frame element, a simple mounting of the closure flap can be achievable. In that case the frame element can surround the closure flap or also consist of several frame strips which extend perpendicularly relative to the pivot axis and are fastened to the door leaf.
Additional cost-saving opportunities can result If the holding means serves to screen a closure flap interior space at least in one direction. Such an arrangement Is of particular advantage if the closure flap Is employed for closing an upper cooking space of a double cooking appliance, because the holding means can prevent penetration of fumes from the lower cooking space Into the closure flap interior space.
A securely pivotable closure flap may be achieved if the holding means has at least one guide surface for guiding a hinge movement or a pivot movement of the closure flap.
In a further aspect of the Invention there is provided a method for fastening at least two hinges to a closure flap by way of a holding means, the method comprising the step of connecting together the hinges by the holding means before the hinges and the holding means are fastened to the closure flap An advantageous matching of the mounting positions of the hinges to the closure flap can thereby be achieved.
A surface of the closure flap which is simple to clean can be achieved when the holding means is arranged between two flat door leaves of the closure flap.
An embodiment of the prevent invention will be more particularly described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, In which.
Fig. 1 Is an exploded view of two hinges and a holding means for connecting the hinges to form a mounting unit, in a cooking appliance door embodying the Invention; and fig. 2 Is an exploded view of part of the cooking appliance door.
Referring now to the drawings, there is shown In Fig. 1, a connecting or holding member and two hinges 11, 12, wherein the member 10 is provided for the purpose of connecting the two hinges 11 and 12 to form a mounting unit 14 (Fig. 2) and of fastening the hinges 11 and 12, as part of the mounting unit 14, to a closure flap 13 to construct a cooking appliance door. The hinges each comprise a respective hinge body 23 or 24 and a pivot hook 25 or 26, wherein the hinge bodies are provided for rigid connection with the flap 13 and the pivot hooks can each be hooked into a corresponding recess at a cooking appliance (not Illustrated). The pivot hooks 25 and 26 are respectively pvotably mounted for a pivot movement 22 relative to the hinge bodies 23 and 24 about pivot axes 15 and 16, wherein, In the case of movement In an opening direction, spring forces of springs arranged in the hinge bodies 23 and 24 have to be overcome. The springs are for the purpose of providing compensation for a weight force of the door The member 10 is constructed as an elongate punched and bent sheet metal part and has over a length direction a substantially closed form. At each of the two ends there is provided a respective U-shaped profile which extends perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction and Is provided for engaging around one of the hinge bodies 23 and 24. In the region of a crest side the U-shaped profiles each have a slot-shaped passage, which extends in a longitudinal direction of the profile and is open towards one side and which is provided for passage through In each Instance of one of the pivot hooks 25 and 26 of the hinges 11 and 12. Edge surfaces of the passages extend, in a mounted state of the mounting unit 14, parallel to a plane of the hinge movement 22 and serve as guide surfaces 20 and 21 for guidance of the hinge movement or of the movement of the pivot hooks 25 and 26 relative to the respective hinge bodies 23 and 24. In addition, two detent sockets 27 and 28 are integrally formed at a side of the member 10 facing in the direction of the cooking appliance in the mounted state of the closure flap 13 and are provided for retention of a viewing pane 17 (Fig. 2).
In a first mounting step the hinges 11 and12 are inserted into the Ushaped profiles of the member 10, wherein the pivot hooks 25 and 26 of the hinges 11 and 12 are guided through the passages. The hinges and the U-shaped profiles have mutually matching holes by which the hinges can be screw-connected to the member 10 in order to form therewith the mounting unit 14. In that case the position of the hinges 11 and 12 relative to one another is so determined by the holes that the pivot axes 15 and 16 of the hinges 11 and 12 coincide or are in alignment. The member 10 extends along the pivot axis, which results from the pivot axes 15 and 16, of the closure flap 13.
Fig. 2 shows the mounting unit 14 created In the first mounting step as well as a closure flap 13 and a viewing pane 17 provided as inner pane.
The closure flap 13 comprises a viewing pane 18, which is constructed as an outer pane, with the function of a door leaf. Two strip-shaped frame elements 19 and 19' are glued to the pane 18 In opposite edge regions to extend parallel and serve for stablisabon of the s door leaf. In an end region, each of the frame elements 19 and 19' has a hole and a mounting tongue for fastening of the mounting unit 14 In a second mounting step the mounting unit 14 is pushed Into the frame elements 19 and 19' in the length direction of the frame elements 19 and19' by protruding ends of the hinge bodies 23 and 24 until the mounting tongues hit against an underside of the profile of the member 10. The tongues and the underside of the member 10 have corresponding holes.
Threads are cut Into the holes of the tongues. Through these holes, the holes of the frame elements 19 and 19' and corresponding holes 29 and 29' of the protruding ends of the hinge bodies 23 and 24 with cut-'n threads, the member 10 is screw-connected with the closure flap 13 and readily removable for, in particular, maintenance purposes. In the screwconnected state the member 10 is fastened to the closure flap 13 to be parallel in its length direction to the pivot axis, which is formed by the pivot axes 15 and 16 of the hinges 11 and 12, of the closure flap 13 and is restricted in its physical extent to a region of this pivot axis.
Detent lugs 30 and 30' are glued to the pane 17 In the region of a lower edge and are detented in the detent sockets 27 and 28 in a third mounting step so that the member 10 holds the pane 17 Corners of the pane 17 are chamfered at the lower edge to allow passage of the pivot hooks 25 and 26 through a plane spanned by the pane 17. A closure flap interior space, which arises in the third mounting step, between the pane 17 and the pane 18 is screened by the member 10 towards an underside, wherein the member 10 is arranged between the panes 17 and 18.
