Abstract

A safety system for a vehicle, with a driver sitting on the driver's seat, which comprises a device to ensure that the starter motor is unable to be activated when using an ignition key until the seat belt has been fastened properly. The passenger seats could also have visual and audible seat belt reminders which may not be switched off until either the passenger seat belts are fastened or the ignition switch is deactivated.

Description

THE SAFETY LINK
This invention is a simple electrical circuit which, when installed in an automobile will ensure the use ofthe safety belts.
Although seat belts are fitted to all automobiles by law, they are not always used.
Many serious and often fatal injuries are caused because the occupants ofthe vehicle were not wearing them. How can this be stopped? Simply by installing an electrical circuit, which will either disable the ignition system or activate an indicating light and buzzer, alerting the driver that they are not being used.
THE DRIVERS SEA T:- The electrical power lead to the starter motor solenoid (D) will be re-routed through a relay switch (A). The power to activate the relay will come from the ignition switch feed (I) and go through a normally closed load sensor (B) connected to the driver's seat. When the seat has no weight on it, the power will be circuited directly to the relay (A) allowing the starter motor solenoid to be activated.
For example, when your mechanic needs to run the engine but not be seated in the vehicle, he will be able to do so.
When a weight is placed on the seat, the load sensor (B) will open and deactivate the solenoid switch (A). Only when the safety belt is fastened properly, closing the micro switch (C) located in the safety belt buckle, will relay (A) be reactivated, then the power to the starter motor solenoid will be able to complete it's circuit THE PASSENGER SEA TS:These will operate in a similar manner to the driver seat apart from the starter motor solenoid relay (A), which will not be connected to this part of the circuit for safety reasons. It will instead be connected to an indicating light (G) and a time-delayed buzzer (H). Each seat will be fitted with it's own weight sensor (E), each seat belt buckle will be fitted with it's own normally closed micro switch (F), which will in turn be connected to its own indicating light (G) and common time delay buzzer (H), allowing the driver to see which of the seat belts are not being utilised properly.
When the weight sensor (E) which is installed in each passenger seat position is activated by weight, the power will be directed to the micro switch (F) located in the safety belt buckle allowing the circuit to the lamps (G) and time delay buzzer (H) to be completed. This will indicate which seat belt has not been buckled, notifying the driver who is in charge of the safety of his passengers. Only when the seat belt has been fastened properly, therefore opening the circuit, will the light and beer be deactivated The power supply to run this part of the circuit will also come from the run position of the ignition switch (I) as you are only required to wear your seat belt when the vehicle is in motion (when the engine is running).

THE SAFETY LINK CLAIMS
1. A safety system, that when the driver sits on the drivers seat, the starter motor will be unable to be activated by means of the ignition key until the seat belt has been fastened properly.
2. A safety system that all passenger seats will have its own indication of non use of seat belts by means of both light and sound.
3. A safety system that will not allow the light and sound indicators for the passenger seats to be switched offuntil the safety belts have been fastened properly or the ignition switch is deactivated (switched off).
