Abstract

Wall or floor tiles are laid in a plastic template which, as shown, acts to provide a grout - like region between the tiles without the use of mortar or adhesives. In other variants, a brick wall is erected using a plastics former which takes the place of conventional mortar (Fig 2), patio slabs are laid on a plastic matrix incorporating necessary drainage falls, and without the use of adhesives (Fig 3), a roof tiling matrix of plastics with an integrally formed ridge member is used (Fig 4), a plastics matrix is used for tiles in a suspended ceiling (Fig 5) and a plastics matrix is used to separate tiles of a fireplace surround (Fig 6).

_
I am a tradesman and a keen D.I.Y. enthusiast. Whilst working on my own property and other projects the thought of laying porcelain tiles on wooden floors has always seemed a poor idea. When considering laying my own floors a deeper thought process was engaged.
Initially a drawing of the intended design was produced and while looking at it and considering the method to be used, always aware of the different expansion and contraction rates of the materials to be used, which I have often observed. Having cracked tiles or powdering mortar joints not long after installation, I realised that there must be a better method.
The invention relates to a method of installing wall tiles, floor tiles, ceiling tiles, brick & block walling, roof tiles, patios & pond slabs, garden paths and the installation of ornamental fireplaces, without the use of mortar or adhesives.
Intro duct ion.
The invention concerns the making of standard rubberised plastic template grids into which the component parts can be placed, forming a completed installation including grouting without the use of wet mixes or adhesives.
NB: When looking at the sketch's (attached) see only the plastic between components forming the grid with courses & perpendicular joints.
Reference -I Wall & Floor Tiles.
Ref- 1 A. Shows a basic template to be made from lightweight rigid panels with screw fLxings to a flat wall or floor.
Ref-1 B&C Depicts feather edge to tile pocket into which tiles can be pushed.
Removal will be possible with simple tool.
Ref- D& E. Shows corner mouldings within a flexible grid which wraps around corners secured with screws through flexible grid and rigid wall panel.
Reference 2 Brick& Block Wall Erection.
Ref -2 A Shows the template used for the erection of a brick or block wall with the facility to leave openings through wall depicted by the "eye" Ref-2 E Shows the grid in its closed flat-pack transportation mode.
At commencement of installation the height from floor to ceiling is measured to establish the amount of spacing required at floor level to insure highest course of bricks/blocks meets the ceiling or height required exactly. The plastic spacing blocks will be covered by skirting board. The sole plate is levelled by the use of spacing blocks. Each course level, located into the side boards, which would already be grooved. The highest course can be secured if necessary with alignment/strengthening pins. Ref: 2F & H Shows pins used on corners and large expanses.
Reference 3 Patios, pond surrounds & ornamental garden structures.
Ref-3 A Shows a standard patio layout with grid incorporating all necessary falls and drainage.(supplied in kit form including slabs).
Ref-3 B Standard size pond surrounds supplied as a complete kit including slabs.
Reference 4. Roof-ridge, roof-tile, batten & blanket.
Ref -4 A Shows ridge with a batten blanket laid either side of roof Ref 4B made with rigid plastic ridge with flexible plastic blanket, incorporating tile battens made to suit standard roof-tiles. Ref 4c & 4D shows method of fixing through battens into rafters.
Reference 5 False Ceilings.
Ref-5 A-B-C-D & E Sketchs depict a part plastic, part rigid flexible grid system, which incorporates all components necessary including suspension hangers. The frame becomes rigid when tiles are inserted, with the hangers carrying the weight or load.
The material would be transported as either a roll or flat-pack.
Reference 6 Ornamental Fireplace Kits.
R-6 A Ornamental fireplace standard design R-6C side view of fireplace showing alignment pins R-2A.
R-6B Partly extended flatpack. R6 D flat pack for ease of transporting & storage.
