Abstract

241,018. Scott, G. M. Oct. 22, 1924. Vitreous enamelling; enamels.-An enamel for squeezing through a stencil of silk used in the. process of manufacturing signs and the like described in Specification 198,837, is made by mixing the frit or quartz-like material and the colouring matter to a damp powder with both mineral and vegetable oils and then working up the powder to a pasty consistency with the aid of a mineral grease or jelly. As an example the mixture may comprise 30 parts by weight of paraffin oil, 3 parts of tallow, and 1 part of oxidized linseed oil with sufficient petroleum jelly to form the pasty mass. If a thickened substitute such as litho-varnish be used instead of ordinary linseed oil the tallow may be omitted. The addition of the petroleum jelly may be made in two stages at intervals of a few days. The first addition of jelly causes some of the paraffin oil to separate out to the top of the mass. This is drained away before the additional jelly is added.
