Abstract

A mast has a lower section 1 hinged at 5 to upper section 2, such that in the upright position end stops 3 and 4 lie in the same plane, and is characterised by a locking component 6 which fits between lower and upper sections 1 and 2. Surfaces 9 and 10 of locking component 6 bear against surfaces 11 and 12 respectively of sections 1 and 2 to give the mast a continuous exterior surface: bolts 13 accessible via opening 18 locate in bores 14 to fix the sections together.

Description

) 24092 1 4 Sectional mast The invention relates to a sectional mast with
a fixed base section and a top section joined to the base section such that it can be turned, which base section and top section have end stops on the ends thereof that face one another and are joined to one another by means of a hinge, such that in the position in which the top section and the base section are aligned with respect to one another the end stops interact with one another, as well as locking means for locking the base section and the top section with respect to one another in the aligned position.
Such a sectional mast is disclosed in GB-A 2 362 396. With this known sectional mast the mast sections adjoin one another via a cut that runs obliquely with respect to the mast. Such sloping of the cut is necessary in order to be able to turn the mast sections with respect to one another whilst the axis of rotation is within the contour of the mast.
The aim of the invention is to provide a sectional mast that also makes it possible to have a cut perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the mast. Said aim is achieved in that a locking component is provided that in the aligned position fits tightly between the base section and the top section.
As a result of the use of a locking component it is possible first to remove a section of the wall of the mast before the mast sections are folded over relative to one another. By replacing the locking component the mast sections that have been raised can be locked again with respect to one another. In this context provision can be made, in particular, that the base section and the top section in the aligned position define a lock recess that opens into the mast surface transversely with respect to the longitudinal axis of the mast, in which lock recess the locking component fits.
The locking component has securing stops that interact with respective securing stops that delimit the lock recess on the base section and on the top section. In particular, transversely with respect to the longitudinal axis of the mast, the end stops can be on the one side alongside the hinge and the securing stops on the opposing side alongside the hinge. To facilitate fitting the locking component, when the base section and the top section are in the aligned position the securing stops on the base section and the securing stops on the top section can enclose a lock recess that becomes wider towards the outside of the lock recess.
Preferably, the locking means have a screw connection with at least one screw that is supported such that it can be turned relative to one of the base section and the top section, as well as a nut that is fixed to the other of the base section and the top section. One of the mast sections has an opening covered by a cover, via which the screw can be operated.
The invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to an illustrative embodiment shown in the figures.
Figure 1 shows the mast, partially, in the folded over position.
Figure 2 shows the mast in the raised position in cross-section, with the locking part removed.
Figure 3 shows the mast in the raised position and in cross-section with the locking part fitted.
Figure 4 shows a plan view of the mast in the raised position.
The mast partially shown in Figures I - 4 comprises a fixed base section I and a top section 2 joined thereto such that it can turn about the hinge 5. The base section 1 has a stop surface 3 that is oriented perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction of said base section 1. In a corresponding manner the top section 2 has a stop surface 4 that is oriented perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction of said top section 2. In the raised position shown in Figures 2 - 4 these stop surfaces 3, 4 are in contact with one another and thus form a cut that is barely discernible in the surface 8 of the mast.
When the mast sections 1, 2 are in this raised position there is a lock recess 7 that is defined by a securing stop 11 on the base section I and a securing stop 12, which runs obliquely inwards with respect to the securing stop 11, on the top section 2.
Furthermore a locking component 6 is provided that has correspondingly oriented securing stops 9, 10. By pushing the locking component 6 into recess 7 the complete mast periphery is restored. The locking component 6 provides reliable support for the top section 2 with respect to the mast section 1.
The bolts 13 are provided in order to improve this support even further. These bolts 13 are screwed into threaded holes 14 that are in the plate 15 at the bottom end of the top section 2. The screws are inserted through holes 16 not provided with screw thread in the end plate 17 at the top of the base section 1. One of the bolts 13 runs through the hole 20 in the locking component 6. The screws are accessible via the access opening 18, which can be closed off by the cover 19.
