Abstract

A buoyancy aid comprising a wrist band and an inflatable lining which when inflated supports the user in the water. Preferably the inflatable lining is compressed into a small Velcro (RTM) fastened envelope contained within the wristband. The lining will be exposed by pulling a quick release tab and is inflated by blowing through a tube with a non-return valve. The lining may form a horseshoe shape that fits around the body of the user. Preferably the wrist band is made from a lightweight nylon with a Velcro (RTM) fastening. The inflatable liner may be made plastic and finished in a fluorescent colour for improved visibility. The aid may be used where the use of life jackets are not possible or practical eg. swimming, snorkelling, body boarding.

Description

-
240891 3 Buoyancy Aid Band Product Category - Water sports safety Aid
Product Description
The Buoyancy Aid Band is a wristband, containing an inflatable inner lining, which when inflated will form a horseshoe shape to fit around the body. It is intended for use in those circumstances where the use of lifejackets is not possible or practical e.g. swimming, snorkelling, body boarding. The purpose of the product is to provide support in the water should the user experience difficulties from cramp, dangerous water currents, tiredness or other problems.
The product will be constructed as a lightweight nylon wristband with Velcro, fastening, as this will not absorb water. The inner lining will be a tough lightweight inflatable plastic, similar to existing buoyancy aids, but will be finished in fluorescent colours to improve visibility. The lining will be machine compressed to fit into a small Velcrosealed envelope inside the wristband.
To use, the lining will be exposed by pulling on a quick release tab and is inflated by blowing through a tube containing a non-retun value. This will prevent air escaping before the tube is sealed, as used in many existing buoyancy products.
For other water sports activities, the product will be very low cost in comparison with lifejackets, and while it is not a substitute for a lifejacket it will provide some safety for those who do not have access to a lifejacket or prefer not to wear one for long periods e.g. extended sailing trips.
The product can be marketed in fashionable colours and styles to improve marketability but also to enable it to be worn when the user is near to water but is not intending to go in. Swimming in clothing is vex difficult and this product can provide the support to enable rescue or escape from the water.

Claims (3)

1) The buoyancy aid band is a wristband containing an inflatable inner lining to provide support in the water in an emergency.
2) The inflatable lining is stored inside the wristband to protect it from damage and to enable it to be easily worn in all circumstances.
3) The inner lining will be brightly coloured to improve visibility and to assist with rescue.
