Abstract

A fishing float 1 comprises a hollow airtight enclosure with a tube 2 passing longitudinally through the enclosure. Affixed to the float is a keeper plate 3. A permanent magnet 4 is connected to the fishing line 5 which passes from the hook 6 through the tube within the float to the rod. In use, the bait 7 is attached to the hook, and the magnet is attached to the keeper. The enclosure gives the float sufficient buoyancy to support the bait and withstand the pull of the fish taking the bait. The action of the fish taking the bait, detaches the magnet from the keeper plate. This movement may be used to activate a sensor, the device thus serving as a bite indicator.

Description

24079SS Fishing Float This invention relates to a system of bite
indication for float fishing usmg a rod and line.
Float fishing is a well-known method of bite Education for angling whereby the float is moved or pulled below the surface of the water being fished by the action of the fish taking the bait. Float fishing requires constant visual momtoring and the angler must be alert and remain vigil at all times. In bad weather and poor visibility observation of the float can be difficult.
Attempts have been made to incorporate sensor means to detect when the bait is taken by the fish.
However most of those systems have proved unreliable because wave movements have caused the sensor to operate erroneously or the transmission signal has been attenuated by submersion of the float.
It is an object of this invention to provide a fishing float, which overcomes the aforesaid disadvantages.
It is also an object of this invention to establish the principle of a fishing float where the weight of the bait IS supported by magnetic attraction and the pull of the fish taking the bait breaks this attraction.
It is a l'urthcr object ol'the present invention to provide a fishing float, which does not normally submerge when the fish takes the bait.
A specific embodiment of the invention will be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawmg in which: Ret'erring to the drawing Fig. I, the float device consists of a hollow airtight enclosure I with a tube 2 passing through and fix to the enclosure I. Mounted beneath the enclosure I is a keeper plate 3 made of a material that a magnet will attach to. A magnet 4 is connected to the fishmg line 5. The hook 6 is also connected to fishing line 5.
The method of fishing and operation of this float is as follows: -The fishing line 5 is passed through the tube 2 and connected to the magnet 4 and the hook 6. The bait 7 is attached to the hook 6. Magnet 4 is attached to the keeper plate 3. When floating in the water, the enclosure I has sufficient buoyancy to support the weight of the bait and the pull of the fish taking the bait. The action of the fish taking the bait detaches the magnet 4 from the keeper plate 3.
The movement of the magnet 4 bemg detached from its keeper plate 3 is used to operate a sensor, which is not shown.
Variation Referring to Fig.2 a variation of this invention is to arrange the fishing float, to float in the horizontal Position. In this position the float is used for fishing with floating bait.
The method of construction, fishing and operation of this float is the same as described for Fig. I except that after casting, the float settles in the horizontal position and the bait is floating on the surface of the water as shown in Fig.2.

Claims (5)

  1. I Claims I. A buoyant fishing float having a mounted keeper plate.
  2. 2. A fishing float according to claim 1 wherein the said keeper plate is made from a material suitable to be attracted to a permanent magnet.
  3. 3. A fishing float according to claim I where the weight of the bait is supported by magnetic attraction between the keeper plate and a magnet.
  4. 4. A fishing float according to any preceding claim where the pull of the fish taking the bait detaches the magnet from the keeper plate.
  5. 5. A fishing float according to any preceding claim where the magnetic disturbance caused by the movement between the keeper plate and the magnet operates a sensor.
