Abstract
A device for applying grout between floor tiles and paving slabs comprises sloping guides 1,2, with vertical lower lips, the space between which is adjustable by studs 5 and wing nuts 4, and for use at edges such as walls or steps, guide 2 can be replaced by vertical plate 3. A pusher device 6 (Fig 2, not shown) may be used to force grout through the space between the guides.

DESCRIPTION - EASY GROUT
The invention relates to a device which enables the grouting of floor paving slabs & tiles to be carried out both quickly & efficiently.
Often when grouting ie (the placing of grout material between adjacent floor slabs or tiles) natural stone paving slabs or precast products, difficulty is experienced in placing the grout between the pavings or tiles and often results with grout finding its way on to the finished surfaces giving an unsatisfactory and messy appearance to the finished floor.
The crux ofthis invention is to guide the grouting material quickly and efficiently into the spaces between adjacent pavings/tiles without grout coming into contact with the finished floor surfaces.
Refering to the enclosed drawing 1/1 it can be seen that Figl comprises of 2 adjustable sloping guides 1 and 2 The sloping guides have protruding lips at their lower edges which form an adjustable slot The width of gap can be adjusted to suit the space between the pavings/tiles by use of wing nuts 4 screwed on to studs 5 The protruding lips of the sloping guides 1 & 2 locates the device thus allowing it to be automatically aligned and ready for use.
Grouting material is placed in the Vee formed trough and is pushed into place through the slot in the bottom using item 6, Fig.2.
From experience of using a prototype it is soon known when the required amount of grout is in place and the device can be slid in either direction in line with the gap for a further application of item 6, Fig.2 Fig 3 on the drawing shows the edging piece 3 which is interchangeable with item 2 With item 3 now in place of item 2 together with the appropriate slot adjustment, the device can now be used to grout up to skirting boards, steps and walls around the periphery of the floor area, to complete the job N B The overall length of item 6, Fig 2 is approx 20mm less than the vee formed trough formed by items 1 & 2 Fig. I z
Claims (4)
1 The essential features ofthis invention are the converging sloping surfaces which through both gravity and the application of item 6 shown in dry. 1/1 Fig2, grout is then pushed between the projecting guide lips, into the gap being grouted.
2 Further to the features in 1. above, the gap between the projecting guide lips is adjustable to suit the width of gap being grouted.
3 The features mentioned in 1. & 2. above cover general areas being grouted.
4. To grout around the periphery of an area, item 3 in Fig.3 in drawing 1/1 is interchanged with item 2. Fig 1 in dry. 1/1.
This then allows the device to be placed next to a wall, steps or skirting to complete the whole of the area being grouted.
Since it is a requirement that the projecting guide lips are kept as thin as practicable to maximise the gap between guide lips for easy passage of grout, it is recommended that the invention is produced from galvanised sheet metal 6 From a health & safety point of view the upper projecting sheet metal edges to be made safe by forming rolled-over edges during manufacture as current sheet metal practice 7 The invention could finally be painted or suitably coated purely for cosmetic reasons.
c: Be* . - ë:; I: eels: at, . a Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows I A kit for applying grout between paving slabs or tiles, comprising a grout receptacle having first and second releasably attached generally planar surfaces which converge downwardly to provide a pair of guide lips between which grout may lee discharged into a gap between the slabs or tiles' and further comprising a member providing a third surface to replace one of said first and second surfaces and to be generally vertical he use for applying grout to slab or tile edges abutting a skirting board, step or wall.
2 A kit as in claim I wncrch the distance between the guide lips is adjustable to suit the width of the gap being grouted /\ kit as in claim I or- 2 further including a means to assist gravity to push the grout toward said lips 4 A kit for applying grout, substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings
