Abstract
Readily soluble, stable dry quinone vat dye preparations are obtained by heating for a prolonged time an alkali salt of the leuco compound of the dyestuff in presence of water, free alkali, and a protective colloid such as molasses, sugar, sulphite cellulose lye, dextrin, albumen or the like, and then evaporating to dryness, preferably in vacuo. In examples the leuco compound of the brown sulphurized vat dyestuff from dianilidodichloroquinone, or of the yellow pp-dichlordianilidoquinone (Specification 9116/11), or of the red p-chloranilidonaphoquinone is heated with caustic soda and molasses, dextrin, or other protective colloid to at least 90 DEG C., the temperature allowed to fall, and the mass evaporated in vacuo. A further example shows the heating of the leuco compound of the dyestuff prepared according to example 2 of Specification 22528/13 with caustic soda and molasses to 75-80 DEG C. and subsequent drying as before. The preparations are for use on wool. Specifications 171,058 and 177,526 also are referred to. p-Chloranilidonaphthoquinone is obtained by condensing a -naphthoquinone with p-chloraniline in presence of boiling alcohol.
