Tell-tale apparatus. -In apparatus for indicating and/or recording distant movements, which may be derived from the differences in the level of a liquid or the pressure of a gas, the transmitter comprises a coil or coils rotatably mounted in an alternating magnetic. field. The electromotive force induced varies with the position of the coil and produces an indication of the position on an indicating or recording instrument. As shown, core 4 carrying two coils 5 is adapted to be rotated through 90‹ between the poles of a laminated field system 2 which is excited by alternating current. The coils 5 are connected to pins 13, 14 which are mounted on an insulating block 15, and dip into mercury cups 16 connected to the line wires. In one extreme position of the rotor the pin 14, which is pivoted at 17, is swung clear of its mercury cup in order to break the signalling circuit. The rotor is supported at the bottom by a thrust bearing 8 and at the top by a pivot bearing 10, and is operated by the apparatus whose movements it is desired to indicate, through a bevel gear 20.
