Abstract

A plate holder for supporting decorative plates on a vertical surface or wall, comprises a wire framework with suspension point 1 and two support features 2 to engage the edge of the plate which is supported in a substantially vertical position. A cross member 3 is fitted with a high friction buffer 4 which may be made of rubber material.

Description

1 2401039 Plate Holder The invention relates to a holder for supporting a
decorative or informative plate on a vertical surface for display purposes.
It is the object of this invention to provide a non-obtrusive system of supporting ceramic plates, or plates of similar material on a vertical surface, i.e. a domestic wall, for the purpose of decoration or display.
The existing systems rely on either a mechanical adaptation of the item being supported i.e. drilling or recessing during the manufacture of the item or the use of an adhesive system, both of which represent a permanent modification to the item to be supported. Another commonly used system is the spring or clamp system, which may cause damage to the edge of item to be supported and which is generally not recommended for items of a fragile nature or of a high value.
It is the object of this invention to obviate or mitigate these disadvantages.

The essential features of the invention are its construction of a malleable wire material providing the general support (2) with the addition of a single crossbeam that may be formed (3) to accommodate a wide variation of shape and size of item to be supported.
The crossbeam is fitted with a high friction buffer (typically rubber) (4) at the point of contact between the holder and the rear of the plate.
The invention provides a safe method of supporting items even if the item is encouraged to tip forward. Refer to photographs 1 & 2.
The invention features the means to be fixed to a vertical surface (Diagrams 1 & 2 (1)) and is finished in a manner that is suitable for use in a variety of environments.
The invention provides a quick and easy method of removal of the item being supported and therefore reduces the possibility of damage when changing displays and during the cleaning of the items being supported. . .

  1. Claims 1. The invention provides a secure non-damaging support by means
    of a high friction, rear location surface.
  2. 2. The invention provides a secure non-damaging support by means of a deforming bar and a high friction rear location surface.
  3. 3. The invention provides a secure method of supporting items even if the item is encouraged to tip forward.
  4. 4. The invention provides secure, non-damaging support.
  5. 5. The invention is not obtrusive from the front.
  6. 6. The invention means no permanent alteration is required to the item being supported.
  7. 7. The invention provides quick and easy removal of the item being supported.
  8. 8. The invention provides a quick and easy method of exchanging items on display.
