Abstract
A flood barrier, preferably of a plastic such as polypropylene, includes a recessed portion, which may be welded to the barrier, to accommodate doorsteps and window ledges and is anchored to the surround of an aperture to be protected by means of bolts, with an intervening seal, preferably of neoprene and preferably attached to the barrier by double-sided adhesive tape. Hand holes are provided.
Description
DESCRIPTION OF THE FLOOD BARRIER
The invention relates to a new type of flood barrier, which is fabricated in a way so as it covers the door aperture and is not compromised by the shape or type of doorframe and the door.
There are a number of flood barriers already in existence but this design overcomes the problem of the door shape. Because other barriers sit inside the doorframe and then secure to the brickwork, they suffer the disadvantage of being unsightly, because the framework is permanently in place and relies upon the integrity of the doorframe structure to form a watertight seal. The new design overcomes these problems and allows for an easily replaceable seal to be fitted when required.
The objective is to cover the door aperture including the doorstep and provide a watertight seal against the surrounding brickwork, whilst being lightweight and easy to fit when needed. The flood barrier is attached to the surrounding brickwork with a series of anchor bolts.
The preferred material for manufacture is polypropylene but could be produced from any other plastic that is strong and can be welded or molded.
The preferred material for the seal is neoprene, but could be produced from any material that when compressed, will deform to match the mating surface. The seal is attached to the flood barrier with double-sided tape.
The preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which: FIGURE I shows the orientation of the flood barrier and the door. The flood barrier is attached to the brickwork with anchor bolts and compresses the seal to the brickwork.
FIGURE 2 is a front view showing the cross section lines A-A and B-B.
FIGURE 3 is the section A-A showing the welding points and the fabricated shape, which enables the doorstep to be accommodated.
FIGURE 4 is the section B-B showing the welding points and the position of the end caps and their seating positions.
FIGURE 5 the back view shows the position of the seal on the flood barrier.
The box view shows the preferred shape of the seal and position of the double- sided tape.
FIGURE 6 shows a front view of the hand holes.
Claims (3)
1 The Flood barrier is a single sheet with a formed section to allow for any protruding feature on a door or window such as a doorstep or a window ledge. See figure 3&4.
2 The flood barrier has hand holes to assist with the carrying and application. See figure 6.
3 The seal is a particular shape and has the holes for the anchor bolts through it. See figure 5.
