Abstract
A pair of trousers that has a panel substantially the width of the trouser which is openable from the waist to the crotch as a flap thereby facilitating the dressing and undressing of young children in particular children that wear nappies, the panel is fastened at the waist by at least one fastener. The panel may be fastened at the waist by a plurality of fasteners 107 to allow the circumference of the waist band to be adjusted and have a fastener 108 halfway down the side seam of the panel. Preferably the panel is situated at the front of the trousers 105, with the back portion 104 of the trousers having inwardly projecting panels 106 which are overlapped by the front panel 105 when closed. Alternatively the panel may be situated at the back of the trousers.

TROUSERS FOR YOUNG CHILDREN
The present invention relates to trousers for young children and more specifically, to babies and young children, who are of an age still to be wearing the aid to hygiene known as 'pappies'. In particular, the invention relates to trousers for use by children wearing washable pappies.
Very young children often wear a one-piece garment, the inside leg seams of which are open from the crotch to the ankle and are closed by means of lo press fasteners, or sometimes buttons. These garments also are open in the front, only the sleeves and feet being closed. These garments are effective but are not used for somewhat older children.
Also known for use with very young children is a form of trouser which has is the inside leg seams closed by means of press stud fasteners. However, these are not entirely satisfactory - the number of fasteners is an inconvenience, and with active children they may become unfastened. Also the inner element of the fasteners can cause chafe of the wearer's legs.
to Loosely cut miniature conventional trousers also are known, but the doubled material forming the fly front can cause discomfort to a young child.
Old-fashioned men's long underwear had an opening panel in the seat region and naval uniform trousers have an opening panel in the front, but in both cases, the openings are of limited size and neither of these garments is relevant to children and, in particular, to children who need to wear pappies.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a form of trousers which is particularly suitable for use with a child who requires to wear pappies.
According to the present invention, there is provided a pair of trousers adapted to facilitate the dressing and undressing of young children, wherein the trousers include a panel extending substantially the full width of the garment and which is openable from the waist to the crotch, the said panel being adapted to be fastened at the waist by at least one fastener.
lo Preferably, there is a plurality of fasteners so arranged as to provide a means of adjusting the circumference of the waist band of the trousers.
Preferably, the waist band of the trousers has two sets of fasteners on either side of the said panel and there is included a set of fasteners at either side of the said panel approximately half-way along the sides of the panel.
A preferred form of fastener is a press-stud fastener.
The invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to to the accompanying drawings which show a pair of trousers embodying the invention with the opening panel in an open and closed state.
Referring to the drawings, a pair of trousers 100 embodying the invention consists of two legs 101 and a waist region 102. As is usual with such :5 garments, the trousers 100 consist of a front portion 103 and a back portion 104 which are joined at the sides to form the garment. In the case of the trousers 100 of the present invention, the sides of the waist region 102 are not joined so that the waist of the front portion 103 of the waist region 102 of the trouser forms a panel 105 which extends the full width of the waist l region 102 of the trousers 100. The back portion 104 of the waist region 102 of the trousers 100 has two inwardly-extending panels 106 which are over lapped by the front panel 105 when it is closed. Each panel 106 has one component of two press-stud fasteners 107 at the top and one component of a further press-stud fastener 108 half-way down. The front panel 106 has the correspondent other components of the pressstud fasteners 107 and 108. The front panel 105 also has two elasticated regions 109. Similar elasticated regions may be provided in the back portion 104 of the waist region 102 of the trousers 100.
The full-width opening front panel 106 of the trousers 100, which can be opened either just down to the fasteners 108, or completely, facilitates the dressing and undressing of a child, particularly one wearing pappies. The provision of the two sets of fasteners 106 enables the waist size of the is trousers 100 to be adjusted readily to accommodate changes in the girth of a child's stomach during the day. Furthermore, if this is done without undoing the fasteners 107, the material of the rear panels 106 effectively pivots about the fasteners 108 forming a neat gather of the material to encompass the top of a Happy, if such is being worn.
If so desired, further sets of press-stud fasteners can be provided symmetrically disposed about the centre line of the rear portion 102 of the trousers, so enabling further adjustment of the waist size of the trousers.
In a second embodiment of the invention, which is not illustrated, it is the front portion 103 of the waist region 102 of the trousers is provided with inwardly-projecting panels and fasteners, corresponding to those of the bulk portion 104 of the embodiment of the invention described above, but the principle and action are the same as described above. l
In both embodiment of the invention, the press-study fasteners can be replaced by other types of fastener such as buttons or hooks and eyes or the releasably adhesive material known by the name "Velcro" (Registered Trade Mark). l
