Abstract

A double pick that simulates the sound of a 12-string guitar with a 6-string guitar is comprised of two picks, the upper one of a heavier gauge than the lower one, joined by a layer of lightweight, flexible foam. The lower of the two picks shall be set in slightly to enhance feel and tone.

DESCRIPTION
This invention relates to a plectrum that plays each guitar string twice.
A traditional pick (or plectrum) plays each note just once, resulting in a 'thin' tone when a standard guitar is strummed with it.
This 'double pick' has the effect of doubling each note played and turning the sound of a 6-string guitar into the sound of a l 2-string guitar.
The double pick will be composed of two slightly staggered picks joined by a layer of foam.

Part 1. The upper pick shall be of a heavier gauge (around 60mm) in order to reproduce a more authentic 12-string sound.
Part 2. The lower pick shall be of a lighter gauge (around 40mm) and shall be set in from the upper pick for an authentic 1 2-string feel and sound.
Part 3. The two picks shall be joined by a layer of lightweight, flexible foam.
Note 1.
The shape of the plectrum is arbitrary. There are many designs on the market at present, and any of these shapes may be used in this invention. This design happens to use the classic oval shaped plectrum - see Figure I - although any shape may be used.

The angle separating the two picks may vary slightly - See Figure 3 depending on the nature of the acoustics created.

    I. A double pick/plectrum comprising an upper and lower pick, joined by a layer of foam, which simulates the sound of a 1 2-string guitar.
