Abstract
A disposable toilet seat cover 10 comprises a piece of sheet material for laying over the toilet seat. The sheet has a central opening having two flaps F1, F2 which, in use, hang into the toilet bowl and ensure that the cover is flushed away when the toilet is flushed. A pair of deformable sections is provided either side of the opening and deform to the shape of the user's body when seated.
Description
Water Closet Seat Cover The present invention relates to a cover for the
seat of a toilet or water closet.
Many toilet seat covers have been proposed hitherto, to provide the user with protection against the transmission of infection or contaminants when using public or other toilets.
Known covers have been of variable degrees of effectiveness or convenience in use.
I have now devised a toilet seat cover which is of simple construction and easy to use, yet provides an effective cover for the seat.
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a cover for the seat of a water closet, the cover comprising a piece of sheet material for laying over the water closet seat, said piece of sheet material being formed to provide a central opening having at least one flap which, in use, hangs down into the bowl of the water closet.
Preferably the piece of sheet material is formed to provide two diametrically-opposed flaps which hang down into the water closet bowl, e. g. at its front and rear.
Preferably the piece of sheet material is pre-cut along two parallel lines and along a transverse line extending between these two parallel lines, to provide a pair of diametrically-opposed flaps. Preferably lines of weakness, such as lines of perforations, extend across the inner ends of the flaps.
Preferably the piece of sheet material is formed to provide a pair of deformable sections either side of its opening, for deforming to the shape of the user's body when seated. Preferably these deformable sections are defined by lines of weakness such as perforated lines, which are preferably arcuate in form.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: FIGURE 1 is a plan view of a water closet seat cover in accordance with the present invention; FIGURE 2 is an isometric view of the seat cover placed on the seat of a water closet, showing the manner in which, in use, the two flaps of its centre opening will hang down and the arcuate side sections of its centre opening will deform; and FIGURE 3 is a similar view of the water closet, showing the manner in which the seat cover will be washed away when the water closet is flushed.
Referring to Figure 1 of the drawings, there is shown a cover for a toilet seat, the cover comprising a rectangular piece of soft paper 10. A central region of the cover is pre cut along two parallel lines 11,12 and along a line 13 extending between the two parallel lines 11,12 mid-way along their lengths: two opposed flaps F1,F2 are accordingly provided. An arcuate line of perforations 14,15 is provided either side of the parallel pre-cut lines 11,12 and joining the ends of the respective lines: arcuate sections S1,S2 are accordingly provided either side of the flaps F1,F2.
Preferably the lines of perforations 14,15 extend across the inner ends of the flaps F1,F2 as shown at 16,17.
In use, and as shown in Figure 2, the cover 10 is laid over the seat of a water closet W. with the flaps F1,F2 aligned front-to-back of the water closet and hanging down, under gravity, into the bowl of the water closet. The user can then use the water closet: the arcuate sections are able to deform according to the shape of the body, folding or tearing as necessary along the perforated lines 14,15.
After use, and when the user flushes the water closet, the flushing water acts on the flaps F1,F2 to draw the whole cover 10 into the bowl of the water closet and flush it completely away, as shown in Figure 3.
It will be appreciated that the seat cover which has been described is of simple and inexpensive construction and can be folded easily and carried, for example in a handbag, in case of need. Moreover, the cover is easy to use and will flush away upon flushing the water closet.
