Abstract

A security device for vehicles, caravans and trailers (including small plant) to immobilise them to prevent theft comprises a hub plate which is filled to the hub with security wheel nuts or studs after a wheel is removed, the hub plate having tubes welded to it to prevent access to the nuts or studs. A base is bolted to the hub plate with a series of holes to enable adjustment in the effective height to compensate for uneven ground and to allow side to side levelling. A cover is then slid over the hub plate and secured with a padlock, the cover encasing the padlock to prevent forced removal. The device is manufactured from plate steel, welded for strength and galvanised to prevent corrosion. The base and cover are common for all uses and the hub plate is specific to the stud spacing of the hub.

Description

SECURITY DEVICE FOR VEHICLES, CARAVANS & TRAILERS (including small plant)
This invention relates to a security device for vehicles, caravans & trailers (including small plant) to immobilise them to prevent theft.
Whilst 'wheel clamps" are readily available they can be cut and released from the vehicle they are protecting.
This invention is unique in design as a wheel is removed from the vehicle and replaced with it, in a secure manner.
For strength this invention is made from plate steel, fabricated and fully welded together then galvanised to prevent corrosion.
The method of securing this invention to the vehicle is two-fold.
Firstly the hub plate has tubes welded to it to enable security wheel nuts that are driven with a specific key from the outside only to be used, the tubes prevent these being gripped and loosened. (Such security wheel nuts are available on the open market).
Secondly the steel cover encases the padlock in such a manner to prevent pricing, sawing, levering or grinding etc. This invention also accommodates the use of a substantially sized padlock.
Finally there is a series of corresponding holes in the hub plate and the base which when bolted through give adjustment in the effective height of this invention, thereby compensating for uneven ground enabling for example a caravan or mobile welding plant to be levelled side to side.
The base and cover are common, whereby the hub plate is specific to the item it is protecting. (Relative to stud spacing of the hub).
