Abstract
A side window for a vehicle with a window and a trim wherein the trim is moveable relative to the window before being tightened with a component fixed to the window. The trim may be tightened by a wedge 6 tightened in a recess 7 in the component 4 fixed to the window. The component 4 may be a clip. The wedge 6 may be conical. The trim 2 or wedge 6 may be tightened by a screw 5 and a clip 4. The trim 2 may have a tongue 8 which passes under one or more tugs 9 attached to the window. The lug or lugs 9 may be on an edge extrusion 11 of the window.
Description
Side window for a vehicle, in particular a passenger vehicle The invention
relates to a side window for a vehicle, in particular a motor vehicle, in particular a passenger vehicle with a window and a trim strip.
When a side window, in particular a fixed side window is built into the side wall of a passenger vehicle, the transition between the window and side wall can be covered by a trim strip. The trim strip can become a design feature.
It is an object of the invention to propose an improved side window of the type described above.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by a detent, which can be locked by a lug provided on the trim strip. The detent is arranged to be fixed to the window, so it is connected with the window or with a component which is connected with the window either directly or indirectly. The invention is particularly suitable for windows with extruded edging.
A particular advantage of the invention is that gaps between the window and the vehicle can be equalised or covered. The fact that the trim strip can be locked with the window makes it possible to supply the customer with a modular version of the window.
Advantageous refinements of the invention are described in the sub-claims.
Preferably, a detent on a spring clip is provided. The spring clip is preferably u- shaped. The u-shaped area of the spring clip can accept the lug of the trim strip.
Preferably, the detent is set pointing diagonally downwards. This enables the removal force to be increased.
The detent may run downwards or diagonally downwards to a point. This also enables the removal force to be increased.
There may be several, preferably two, detents.
The component provided with the detent, in particular the spring clip, may be locked with a clip. The clip is preferably made from plastic.
The clip or the plastic clip may be injected into an edge extrusion around the window.
In the following, an embodiment of the invention will be described in detail by reference to the appended drawing, wherein: Fig. 1 shows the rear portion of a passenger vehicle with a side window in perspective view, Fig.2 shows the side window in perspective view, Fig. 3 shows the detail "A" from Fig. 2 in an enlarged perspective view, Fig. 4 shows a section along the line A-A in Fig. 3, and Fig. 5 shows a section along the line B-B in Fig. 3.
The side window 1 shown in perspective view in Fig. 2 comprises a window 12 and a trim strip 3. When this fixed side window 1 is built into the side wall 2 of a passenger vehicle, the transition between the window 12 and the side wall 2 is covered by the trim strip 3. The trim strip 3 can also become a design feature.
Several plastic clips 9 are provided on the lower edge of the window 12 to enclose the lower edge of the window 12. To each plastic clip 9 a removable spring clip 7 is fixed in a releasable manner, namely locked. Each spring clip 7 comprises two spread wings 13,14 which can each be connected by a base 15 with the inner essentially level area 16 of the spring clip 7 and thus form a u-shaped area 17, in which a lug 5 of the trim strip 3 can be accepted. The inner area 16 of the spring clip 7 and its wings 13,14 form an angle of somewhat more than 180 as can be seen in Fig. 5 so that the u-shaped area 17 narrows towards the top.
At the upper end areas of the wings 13,14, cut-outs 18 are present which are essentially triangular in shape with the point of the triangle pointing downwards.
Inside the cut-outs 18 substantially triangular points are present which mesh with the upper area of the wings 13,14 and whose point also points downwards. The upper ends of the wings 13, 14 are bevelled outwards as can be seen particularly clearly in Fig. 5, so that the triangular points are pointed downwards as can also be clearly seen in Fig. 5. They thus project diagonally downwards into the u-shaped area 17. The triangular points each form a detent 8 which is arranged to point downwards and which becomes pointed downwards.
The component provided with the detent 8, namely the spring clip 7, is locked with a plastic clip 9. For this purpose, the spring clip 7 has an extension 19 pointing inwards and which in essence runs at right angles to the inner area 16, which in the middle lies between the wings 13, 14 and from which a locking tab 10 projects. The extension 19 passes through an opening 20 provided in the plastic clip 9. During assembly, the extension 19 is moved from the outside 21 of the window 12 towards the inside 22 through the opening 20. The side of the locking tab 10 facing the inside 22 has a bevelled section by which the locking tab 10 is deformed as it passes through the opening 20. When it reaches the end position shown in Fig. 4, the locking tab 10 opens up downwards and locks the extension 19 and thus the spring clip 7 with the plastic clip 9.
The trim strip 3 which forms a u-shaped trim profile towards the outside 21, has a lug which lies in the inside of the trim strip 3 and is substantially formed as a flat strip which runs parallel to the window 12. The lug 5 is inserted into the u-shaped areas 17 of the spring clips 7 and locks there, the locking being assured by the detents 8 projecting diagonally downwards and inwards into the u-shaped areas 17 and forming a friction lock on the lug 5. Due to the geometry of the detents 8 which act like a barb, little assembly effort is required downwards (- z axis) whereas a significantly greater effort is required in the opposite direction upwards (+ z axis) to adjust or disassemble. Gaps between the window 12 and the side wall 2 can be equalised by an appropriate entry depth of the lug 5 into the u-shaped areas 17 of the spring clips 7.
The lug 5 of the trim strip 3 can be locked in the spring clips 7 in any position. This facilitates a smooth equalisation of gaps with the side wall 2.
The plastic clip 9 is clamped to the window 12 before the extrusion is fitted to the window 12 and is covered along with the window 12 when the extrusion is fitted.
Injecting the plastic clip 9 in the edge extrusion 11 ensures that the plastic clip 9 and also the connected spring clips 7 and the trim strip 3 on the window 12 are firmly seated. Locking the trim strip 3 to the window 12 enables modular supply to the customer. The assembly of the trim strip 3 enables gaps between the window 12 and the body or the side wall 2 to be equalised or covered.
