Abstract

An artist's paint-tube dispenser comprising a base 1 to which is fixed an axle 2 with hub 3 about which rotates a plate or disc 4 having an inclined or raised edge 10 containing spaced-apart holes 5 which are shaped to act as female with the cap end of a paint-tube 6 as male and so afford the mounting of paint-tubes on a push-fit basis. Each hole (5) could be fitted with a flange or collar (11, figure 4) or could be threaded 9 to take the thread 8 of a paint-tube. The paint-tube caps 7 are replaced/removed from the underside of the raised edge 10.

Description

AN ARTIST's PAINT-TUBE DISPENSER This invention relates to a dispenser
which can be used to mount tubes of artists' paint.
Artists' paint is commonly retailed or supplied in tubes which are opened and re- sealed by means of a screw-action top or cap. The tube is squeezed so that the thick liquid paint is ejected in the quantity desired onto the artist's palette.
Unless extreme care is taken the paint-tubes themselves become covered in paint during use and this is transferred from one tube to another as the tubes are placed or stored together. The paint is transferred to hands and back to tubes and so on.
Tubes of paint can be frustratingly misplaced or even trodden upon.
An object of the present invention is to provide a dispenser to which the paint-tubes can be very quickly attached in position ready for use. Each tube can remain on the dispenser until expired at which point it can be replaced. The amount of paint remaining in each tube is visually instantly assessable.
According to the present invention an artist's paint dispenser comprises a plate or disc which rotates about a fixed axle or supporting member. This in turn is mounted upon a base to provide stability, forming a carousel.
The outer edge of the rotating disc is raised to forty five degrees or thereabouts.
Within the raised edge are a number of spaced-apart holes of axis perpendicular or thereabouts to the raised edge. Each hole is shaped to match the cap-end of a paint- tube so that a paint-tube can be push-fitted into it. Each hole may be threaded to match the thread of a paint-tube so that a paint-tube may be threadedly engaged.
Furthermore each hole may be fitted with a soft-material, perhaps rubber or silicone, collar or flange to harbour and grip a paint-tube. Once the paint-tube has been pushed or screwed into place its cap can be replaced.
The artist's paint-tube dispenser (carousel) is used by simply rotating to the paint colour (tube) desired, removing the cap, placing an artist's palette under the paint-tube at the point on the palette where the paint is desired, squeezing the tube to expel sufficient paint and then replacing the paint-tube cap.
Each paint-tube is held readily accessible, clean, and separated from its neighbour.
The artist's paint-tube dispenser (carousel) can be made in various sizes to accommodate any number of paint-tubes or paint-tube sizes.
The upper middle area of the carousel may be adapted to accommodate artists' brushes, spare tubes of paint or other artists' commodities. The base of the carousel may also be adapted for this purpose.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 Illustrates the general configuration of the artist's paint-tube dispenser.
Fig. 2 Shows a cross-section of the rotating disc mounted on its axle and with a paint- tube mounted.
Fig. 3 Shows in more detail (including countersink) the paint-tube mounting arrangement for the screw-fit option. I Fig. 4 Shows how a paint- tube may be mounted with the push-fit option using a soft material collar or flange fitted to the edge of a hole contained within the raised edge.
Referring to the drawings, the paint-tube 6 and it's cap 7 do not form part of the artist's paint-tube dispenser but are the products it is designed to hold.
The artist's paint-tube dispenser consists of a base I into which is fixed a supporting member or axle 2. The other end of the axle 2 forms a hub 3 about which rotates a disc 4 which has a raised edge 10.
The raised edge 10 of the rotating disc 4 contains a series of spacedapart holes 5 shaped to act as the female with the cap-end of the painttube 6 as the male. The axis of the holes 5 is perpendicular or thereabouts to the raised edge] O. Each hole 5 may be threaded 9 to match the thread 8 of the paint-tubes 6 to be mounted. Furthermore each hole 5 may be fitted with a collar or flange 11 into which a paint-tube 6 is: pushed thus securing it's mount by grip. ] The paint-tube cap 7 is removed during mounting and replaced from the underside of the raised edge 10.

Claims (4)

  1. I. A dispenser for artists' paint contained in tubes wherein the tubes are mounted on the dispenser cap downwards.
  2. 2. An artist's paint-tube dispenser according to claim I wherein the means of mounting and retaining the artists' paint-tubes in place is by holes which match the shape of the cap-end of the paint-tubes and into which the paint- tubes are push-fitted.
  3. 3. An artist's paint-tube dispenser according to claims 1 and 2 wherein the holes are threaded to take the thread of the paint-tubes thus affording a screw-fit.
  4. 4. An artist's paint-tube dispenser according to claims 1, 2 and 3 wherein the paint tubes are mounted upon a disc which rotates about an axle or anchorage which is fixed to a base.
