Abstract

A baby's cot comprises two end pieces 3 and two slatted sides 2. The cot can be converted into a table by removing the two slatted sides and combining them to form a table top 9 which is attached to the upturned frame of the cot that comprises 3 the two end pieces and two connecting cross rails 1.

Description

- 1 CHANGEABLE BABY'S COT
This invention relates to a changeable baby's cot.
Babies cots are predominately four-sided, slatted, lightweight constructions. The height of the bed frame is usually adjustable, and the sides slide up and down for either access to the baby or for safety. Cots are either thrown away after the child has outgrown the dimensions or Reconstructed and stored away.
According to the present invention, there is provided a wood frame chassis attached to two solid, square sides known as the legs. There are two slatted rectangular frames which function as the sides of the cot, and when put together perform the task of a table top by sliding into slots in the legs. The wood frame chassis can either hold the cots mattress or the table top, according to the set up of the frame.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective, the cot with its slatted frames in the 'up' position; Figure 2 illustrates the two slatted sides sliding into the 'down' position; Figure 3 shows the cot as a frame with two solid legs and slatted sides removed; Figure 4 shows the legs and frame turned upside down; Figure 5 shows the two sides of the slatted frames coming together to form a flat surface Figure 6 shows the blended slatted frames sliding through grooves on each solid leg; and Figure 7 shows the blended slatted frames in the final position in between the solid legs.
- 2 Referring to the drawing the cot comprises a frame 1 in the form of a rectangle, attached to two solid sides being the legs 3. Two slatted removable frames 2 are located with pins 6 into the slots 4 and 5 on the two solid legs 3. In order for the frames 1 to be lowered to the lower height shown in Fig 2, the frames are slightly pulled up and positioned out of slot 5 and lowered in the direction of arrow 11 into the other slot 4.
For the two frames to be totally removed from the cot Fig 1, they are pulled all the way up in the direction of arrow 7 along the slots 4 until the pins 6 are free from the legs 3. In order for the cot legs Fig 3 to change into table legs Fig 4, the frame 1 and solid legs 3 are turned upside down.
To become a smooth table top 9 the two slatted frames 2 in Fig 5 are joined in the direction of arrow 8. The two slatted frames are together in Fig 6, sliding into channels 10 on both solid legs 3 above frame 1.
Fig 7 shows the final position of the slatted frames 9 in between the two solid legs 3 and resting on top of frame 1.
To change back into a baby's cot, the steps described above are carried out in the reverse sequence.
