Abstract
A foldable car trailer can be disassembled into a flat form minimising storage space. A main body in the form of a box comprises side panels 2 secured by hinges 1 to a base panel 3. Wheels 4 are attached to wheel bars 6 which slide along runners 5 to lift the wheels above the base panel. A support bar 7 situated below the base panel and a tow bar situated at the front of the trailer are both removable. A brake light panel 8 can fold up into the base panel and attached itself thereto using catches.
Description
A FOLDABLE CAR TRAILER
This invention relates to a foldable car trailer.
Car trailers are well known vehicles, which comprise a wheeled chassis upon which the m din Cody in the.fiom.m of a box is pernmne.ntly secured These car trailers vary Ln sizes and are all too large to be stored where space is at a premium.
The invention presented here is of a foldable car trailer comprising a main body in a form of a box. The body will consist of all around hinged panels permanently secured to a base panel, allowing the body to collapse into a flat position. The side panels comprise runners into which the wheels would slide in and out of, aided by bars in which the wheels would be bolted on to. This will allow the body and the wheels to be folded up as one single piece. The outcome of this invention would be to reduce the storage space the trailer would require in order to be stored.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 illustrates the function of the folding side panel and wheel.
Figure 2 shows in perspective the car trailer fully assembled.
Figure 3 shows a projection of the bottom part of the trailer illustrating the way in which the support bar will secure the wheels from collapsing when load is added.
Figure 4 shows the trailer fully disassembled ready to be moved into storage.
- 2 Referring to the drawings the foldable trailer comprises a main body in the form of a box, which is constructed from side panels 2 including a base panel 3 which would secure the panels together using hinges 1 and buckles 11. Attached to the side panels 2 are the wheel bars 6 which are releasably secured to the wheel runners 5 allowing the wheel 4 to slide up and down in the direction ofthe arrow. (Figl) In order to release the wheel bars 6 and allow the wheels 4 to slide into a disassembled position, pins 9 and 12 are released. Once released the support bar 7 which is attached to the bottom of the trailer can be removed (Fig3). When the support bar 7 is removed the wheel bars 6 can easily slide into position and the side panels 2 can start to fold once the buckles 11 have been released (Figl and 3). The brake light panel 8 will fold into the base panel 3 and attach itself using catches (not shown). Once the components have been released and folded the trailer will convert into a flat form (Fig 4). The support bar 7 and the tow bar 10 will attach to the side panels 2 using catches (not shown). The wheel bars 6 can once again be released to allow the wheels 4 to slide down assisting the user to wheel the trailer into storage whilst in a disassembled state.
To reassemble the foldable trailer the steps described above are carried out in reverse order, allowing the trailer to be reused (Fig2).
Claims (9)
1 A foldable car trailer comprising a body in the form of a box. The body is formed from side panels attached to a base panel via hinges. Attached to the panels are releasably secured wheels bolted to bars adapted to slide up and down the side panels, Resisted by perr.nn.er.tly sectored namers therefore allo..n.g the trailer to disassemble into a flat form.
2 A foldable car trailer as claimed in claim 1 wherein the collapsibility of the wheels are the main function of the foldable trailer.
