Abstract
A foldable trailer comprises a wheeled chassis wherein the wheels and the vehicle connecting member (1) can be folded under the trailer, and a box type body mounted on the chassis has panels (8) which also fold flat onto the floor (7). A side wheel (10) and support stand (11) are provided such that the trailer can be tipped on its side and manoeuvred into a storage position. The vehicle connecting member and the wheel arms (4) can rotate about their respective pivot points (2, 5) and may be locked in position by releasable securing members. In the working condition the vehicle connecting member is stopped against the chassis, and the wheels are stopped against shock absorbers (6).

FOLDABLE TRAILER
This invention relates to a foldable trailer.
Foldable trailers are known but not in wide spread usage, they comprise of a wheeled chassis upon which is a open box type body which may fold or be dismantled in some way to try and reduce the volume of the trailer for storage purposes.
Such trailers suffer from the disadvantages that they are either awkward to fold or dismantle, do not reduce to an acceptable volume or are awkward to manoeuvre after reduction.
An object of this invention is to reduce the volume of the trailer while still being easy to manoeuvre into a suitable storage position.
Accordingly, this invention provides a usable trailer comprising a wheeled chassis were both wheels and vehicle connecting member can be folded snugly under the floor, the box type body mounted on the chassis as panels which can also be folded flat, a wheel and support provides means to stand and or manoeuvre trailer when tipped on edge.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective the trailer in working unfolded position.
Figure 2 shows a side view of the unfolded trailer (wheels removed clarity).
Figure 3 shows a bottom view of the unfolded trailer on its side (wheels removed for clarity).
Figure 4 shows in perspective the trailer in folded storage position standing on its side.
Figure 5 shows a side view of the folded trailer (wheels removed for clarity).
Figure 6 shows a bottom view of the trailer on its side (wheels removed for clarity).
Referring to the drawings the trailer comprises a wheeled chassis which itself comprises vehicle connecting member 1, vehicle connecting member pivot 2, wheel connecting arm 4, wheel ann pivot 5, and shock absorber 6, upon which is a open box type body which itself comprises floor panel 7and side panels 8.
The small side wheel 10 and support stand 11 are fixed by permanent or releasable catch (not shown) to the side of the floor panel 7.
In order to fold the trailer for storage the side panels 8 are folded against the floor panel 7by means of a side panel hinge 9. The side panels 8 when folded could be secured to the floor panel 7 by means of a catch (not shown). The trailer is then tipped on to its side where it rests on the side wheel 10 and support stand 11, the vehicle connecting member locking catch 3 is released allowing the vehicle connecting member 1 to rotate about the vehicle connecting member pivot 2, thus allowing folding of the vehicle connecting member 1 against the floor panel 7. The wheel connecting arm 4 is released by a securing latch (not shown) thus allowing the wheel connecting arm 4 to rotate about the wheel connecting arm pivot 5 thus allowing folding of the wheels and wheel connecting arm 4 against the floor panel 7. The trailer is now fully folded as shown in figure 4, 5, and 6, now by lifting the support stand off the ground the trailer can be wheeled like a wheel barrow to a suitable storage position where it may rest upon stand and wheel.
Claims (12)
1. A foldable trailer comprising a wheeled chassis were both wheels and vehicle connecting member can be folded snugly under bosom of trailer, the box type body mounted on the chassis has panels which can also be folded flat, a wheel and support provides means to stand and or manoeuvre trailer when tipped on edge.
2. A foldable trailer as claimed in claim I wherein releasable securing means are provided so vehicle connecting member can or are locked in positions.
3. A foldable trailer as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 where the vehicle connecting member is connected via a pivot point where it is allowed to rotate.
4. A foldable as claimed in Claim 3 where the vehicle connecting member when in working position as in figure 1, 2 or 3 are or can be arrested and located against chassis member or members forming a rigid vehicle connecting member.
5. A foldable trailer as claimed in Claim 1 wherein releaseable securing means are provided for the wheels and there or their connecting members can or are locked in positions.
6. A foldable trailer as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 5 where the wheels and their connecting members are connected via a pivot point where they or is allowed to rotate.
7. A foldable trailer as claimed in Claim 6 where the wheels and their connecting members when in working position as in figure 1, 2 or 3 are or is arrested and located against the trailers shock absorbers.
8. A foldable trailer as claimed in any proceeding claim where the box typed bodies components can or are rotable about an hinge type component.
9. A foldable trailer as claimed in Claim 8 where the box typed bodies components can or are secured in positions by releasable securing means.
10. A foldable trailer as claimed in Claim 8 or Claim 9 where the box typed bodies components can or folded against trailers floor.
11. A foldable trailer as claimed in any proceeding Claim where means are provided for standing and manoeuvring trailer in folded position.
12. A foldable trailer substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1 - 6 of the accompanying drawings.
