Abstract
A free standing exercise apparatus comprises a frame formed by base 18, lower legs 10,11, upper legs 12, 13. Top bar 14 joins upper legs 12,13 through holes in the frame. Handles 16 and 17 are attached to lower legs 10, 11 respectively. The various parts of the frame are fastened together by washer bolts 20 and attached to the feet by brackets 19. When collapsed the various parts slide into each other and are held in place by bolts 20 and brackets 19. Handle 16 forms a carrying handle. The frame is preferably manufactured from mild steel or aluminium alloy.

PORTABLE FREESTANDING GYM
Free standing gyms are well known structures which comprise a top bar and handles attached to a frame which enable the user to perform a range of upper body exercises using their own body weight.
These types of gyms are, however, relatively heavy and are intended to be assembled then used in a permanent location.
The object of this invention is to provide a relatively light freestanding gym, which can be reassembled into a compact portable form for use in a different location.
According to the present invention there is a provided freestanding gym comprising a top bar and handles used for exercise secured to a frame. The short handle which in conjunction with the long handle connects the upper leg top bar assembly with the lower legs when the gym is in the erect form which converts to become the carrying handle when the gym is in the portable form.
The lower legs, which are supported vertically on feet and are connected together by a bottom bar when the gym is in the erect form, which converts to become the main carrying body with all other gym, parts either secured to or restrained in it when the gym is in the portable form.
Brackets which connect the lower legs to the feet when the gym is in the erect form which convert to become supports for the carrying handle and restraints for the parts in the lower legs while simultaneously connecting the lower legs and feet together when the gym is in the portable form.
/ Preferably the gym can be made from mild steel or aluminium alloy, the aluminium alloy gym being light to carry but relatively expensive whereas the mild steel gym is heavier to carry but relatively less expensive.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: FIG1 shows the gym in its portable form.
FIG2 Shows the gym dismantled.
FIG3 shows the gym in its erected form Referring to the drawing the gym in its portable form as shown in FlG1 should be dismantled as shown in FIG2 before being assembled into its erect form as shown in FIG3.
2. In order to dismantle the gym from its portable form the carrying handle 17 is firstly removed from its two brackets 19 by releasing the two washer bolts 20 then all the four brackets 19 and the feet 18 are removed from the lower legs 10,1 1 by releasing the eight washer bolts 20. The lower legs can now be separated and the upper legs 12, 13 top bar 14 bottom bar 15 and the long handle 16 can be withdrawn from them.
Finally the four washers bolts 20 held in the bottom bar and long handle are released.
In order to assemble the gym into its erect form from its dismantled state the lower legs 10, 11 are firstly secured to the feet 18 by the four brackets 19 using eight washer bolts 20 and are connected to each other by the bottom bar 15 using two washer bolts 20. The upper legs 12, 13 are connected to each other by the top bar 14 using two washer bolts 20. The upper leg top bar assembly is then secured to the lower legs 10, I I by the handles 16, 17 using two washer bolts20. Finally the two captive bolts 21 are tightened onto the upper legs 12, 13.
To dismantle the gym and assemble it into its portable form the steps described above are carried out in the reverse order.
