Abstract
239,323. Bowie, J. July 17, 1924. Screw propellers. - Screw propellers for helicopters are formed with one or more convolutions with a horizontal flange which rotates in a groove on a discharge shoot, the latter projecting through the hull and tapering toward a controlled outlet. The lifting propellers are arranged in groups of five, driven by an engine 7, Figs. 1 and 3, propellers 2, 3, 4, 5 being at the sides and at a lower level than 1 which is on the centre line. The side propellers have a bottom flange 6, Fig. 5, which rotates in a groove 7 at the top of a tapered shoot 8, the lower end of which is closed by a counter-weighted flap 9 when the helicopter alights on the water. Propellers 10, 11, 12, 13 are provided for horizontal propulsion. Air and water rudders 14, 15 are provided. The central propellers 1 are constucted as descibed in Specification 26140/10.
