Abstract

A quick-release window guard comprises locking side bars C with compression handles B, a centre post A, locating brackets J and a secure fitting D with an anchor point E. The guard is released by compressing the handles B to effect a telescopic movement of the locking members C. Upon removal of the guard a rope ladder (Q, Fig 4) may be attached to the anchor point E. The stiffness of the springs H is such that the handles B cannot be compressed by a small child.

Description / Abstract
Window Guard with means to escape This invention relates to a window guard with means to escape.
Due to the nature of escape windows being low and large allowing for easy escape, also enables people, namely children to accidentally fall out when open. Also escape window design does not offer a complete escape solution and often rely on for example a shed, ledge or roof to step down on to.
According to the present invention there is provided a childproof guard to prevent people from falling from this type of window and hinder intruders. The guard is easily removed by an adult or an older child by compressing side handles; a rope ladder then can be attached to a permanent anchor point set in the base bracket that is secured to the window sill or wall enabling a means to escape.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 4 view A shows the fitting of the inset window guard.
Figure 5 view A shows the fitting of the flush mountable window guard.
Figure 4 & 5 view B illustrates the use of the guard as an escape aid.
Referring to the drawings the guard comprises a secured base bracket (D or N) that when used in conjunction with the location brackets (K or M) and the quick-release frame, form the safety window guard as in Fig 1 & 2. When the secured base bracket (D or N) is used with the rope ladder and stand off (Q & P), it becomes the means to escape as in Fig 4 or 5 view B. This consists of a fire retardant rope ladder (Q), that when folded in it's sheathe can be stored by hanging in a wardrobe close to the escape window see Figure 6 view A. When required, the ladder is removed from storage and hooked onto the ring bolt (Fig E or 0), the Velcro seems (U) on the sheathe (S) and the securing strap (R) are torn apart to allow the ladder to unfold to the ground see Figure 6 view B. The sheathe acts as a safety cover over the window ledge.
