Abstract

A bookmark comprised of two flexible, lightweight, adjustable strips. The first strip 1 wraps around the book cover and the second strip 4 is clear and is attached to the first strip to mark the page. The first strip may have a piece of quick release tape 3 which faces outwards when applied to the cover. The second strip 4 may have quick release tape on both ends 5, and is wrapped around the pages and attached to the tape 3 on the first strip 1. The second strip 4 may be detached and re-attached when turning a page. Preferably two bookmarks are used at a time, one on each cover to hold the pages open. The bookmark may be made in decorative shapes attractive to children, promoters or advertisers.

Description

PAGE RETAINING BOOKMARK
This invention relates to a bookmark which is reset while reading and which holds the open pages flat.
Most bookmarks have to be placed between the pages of a book before the book can be closed. These bookmarks have a number of disadvantages, such as the bookmark can be misplaced or dislodged. Also, the bookmark has to be placed between the pages before the book can be closed, which can be a problem if the book needs to be closed quickly, especially likely when travelling. Some inventions have solved these problems by remaining attached to the book while also aiding the reader by holding the pages in place while reading. However, these inventions are usually specific to certain book sizes, or rather bulky making them not suitable for use while travelling.
The object of this invention is to provide a lightweights adjustable bookmark which does not require setting before the book is closed, which is not easily dislodged, and which secures the pages open, making the book easier for die reader to hold. Tf used on hardback books, the bookmark also enables the book to be read while placed on a flat surface leaving the readers hands free.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a lightweight, adjustable bookmark, which consists of two flexible, adjustable strips, the first section of which is fixed to the cover of the book, while the second, a clear strip, goes over the page being read. The second section is reset when each page is fumed. The invention works best when two of each section are used, one for each cover of the book.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 shows the first section of the invention before its attachment to the book cover. FIGURE 2 shows the second section which attached to the first section and goes over the pages being read.
FIGURE 3 shows an external view of the book with the first section in place on the book.
FIGURE 4 shows an internal view of the book with the first section in place on the book.
FIGURE 5 shows an external view of the book win the second section in operation.
FIGURE 6 shows an internal view ofthe book with the second section in operation.
FIGURE 7 shows a internal view of the book with the second section on Me right side detached to allow the page to be fumed.
The first section, as shown in Figure 1, is a flexible strip which is placed around the cover of the book and locked in place by a quick release male and female fastener 2, as shown in Figure 3 and Figure 4. There is a strip of the quick release fastener 3 down the middle of the flexible strip which faces outwards when attached to the book cover, see 3 in Figure 3. This section remains attached to the book, as shown in Fig 3, until the book has been read then the strip is detached and fixed to a new book.
The second section is a clear flexible strip 4 with the quick release fastener 5 on both ends of the strip as shown in Figure 2. The fastener 5 is the opposite mate the strip of fastener in the middle of the first section, 3 in Figure I. Figure 5 shows the clear strip 4 as it would appear when in use and attached to the first section 1. This second section 4 is the operating part of the invention and is reset after each page is turned. This is best done by detaching the clear strip where it is connecting 5 to top of 3 as see Figure 5. Figure 7 shows section two 4 when detached. The page is turned, the clear strip reattached to 3 from the top then the other strip released, placed over the turned page and reattached.
