Abstract

SMS, MMS Vending machine, a device that uses the internet to send 8bit SMS data to a mobile phone when a user inserts the correct coinage and selects the desired product to be delivered to his or her mobile phone. The information being sent to the SMS server is stored on the machines built in hard drive and is in the format of either RTTL, Java HEX or WAP bookmark and is contained in a hidden field within a HTML form that when submitted along with the users input sends the data to an SMS server for delivery to the users mobile phone. The machine being linked to the Internet allows for periodic update of product content from a central database.

Description

\ 2389949
SMS MMS Vending machine A coin operated device that sends 8bit SMS messages containing R1lL (Ringtone transfer language) and Bitmap images using JavEX code directly to a mobile phone via an internet based SMS server.
MMS (Mobile media service), e.g. still or animated colour images, Audio and Video are also sent to the mobile phone via SMS WAP bookmarks.
The WAP (Wireless applications protocol) Bookmarks are delivered to the phone and the user then connects to a hypertext website and downloads the product to the mobile phone.
To accomplish this, The SMS, MMS Vending machine would be configured as shown in the accompanying illustration. The concept is intended to provide mobile phone users with a means whereby they could access a wide range of mobile phone software that would personalize the mobile phone with Ringtones, operator logos and graphics, musical soundtracks (MP3) and motion video.
The device would consist of a coin-operated mechanism with either a keyboard and trackball or a touch screen system that would become active once the required amount of coinage has been deposited. The machine would be loaded with a custom HTML graphical user interface (GUI) and would be linked to the World Wide Web. The GUI would be a local system which means that the HTML content would be stored on the machine's hard drive and would simply use the internet to relay the HTML "get request" or "post request" to the SMS server housed in a central location. All Ringtones, Logos and MMS WAP Bookmarks would be stored in He relevant format ready to be sent to the SMS server.
Upon activation of the keyboard or touch screen, the user would be prompted to search the local database for the product he or she requires.
Once the selection has been made, the user would be asked to enter his or her mobile phone number. The user would then type in the phone number and press the "Submit" button. The HTML form would then send the embedded RTTL, HEX or WAP bookmark data contained within a hidden field along with the user's input via Get or Post request to the
SMS message server. The server would then deliver the ringtone, logo or bookmark to the mobile phone within a few seconds.
The machine would have the ability to update the content stored periodically by connecting to a central content database. The users mobile phone number and/or email address could be stored for promotional purposes.
