Abstract
A fence panel 4 supported by horizontal supports 5, 6 and stabilised by vertical supports 9, where the horizontal and vertical supports may be screwed onto or inset into each other. The panels 4 may be transparent, semi-transparent, opaque, coloured or patterned and may be made from plastic or another durable material. The panels may slide along in channels located on the horizontal supports to permit access through the fence arrangement (Fig 4, 4a).
Description
TRANSPARENT FENCING
The invention relates to transparent/semi-transparent/opaque plastic panels stabilised by metal, plastic, I]PVC or wood supports. The supports may be sunk into the ground by cement or mounted on metal spikes/inserts Wooden fencing can be used to mark a boundary but the main reasons for erection are to give privacy and to act as a windbreak. However it can cast shadows/darkness on either side and it denies a person the ability to see or be aware of anybody behind.
The object of this invention is to provide fencing that gives privacy but allows awareness of movement behind; casts less shadow/darkness; lets more light into the garden; keeps the soil drier; allows the option of privacy or visibility. It may also be used as a windshield or garden divider again offering privacy or visibility.
Fencing that gives privacy but has the added safety of allowing awareness of movement on either side; allows the option of privacy or visibility; is strong and durable; sections that can be easily assembled/dismantled; allows more light into the garden and casts less shadow/darkness. The design of the invention may vary according to the height, length and strength of the fence required along with its positioning. This may also affect the strength of the plastic panels used.
Plastic panels may be transparent, semi-transparent, opaque, coloured, patterned and may vary in shape and design.
They may be mixed if required ie semi-transparent for privacy with panels(s) transparent for visibility.
The sections may be freestanding or fixed; they may be fixed to the supports by rustproof screws, adhesive or astragal with rubber sealing. UPVC capping may be used to conceal screws. The support posts may be manufactured in metal, plastic, timber or other suitable durable material. The invention requires minimum maintenance; has great versatility eg windbreaker, garden divider; and its use will aid tree preservation.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 shows fence style No 1.
Transparent/semi-transparent/opaque plastic panels stabilised by vertical posts.
The plastic panels may be attached to the post by means of grooves, clips, or astragal with rubber sealing.
FIGURE 2 shows fence style No 2 Transparent/semi-transparent/opaque plastic panels stabilised by vertical posts and top and bottom horizontal support beams. The horizontal support beams may be screwed onto or inset into the vertical posts and may vary in position and size.
Sectioned plastic panels may be stabilised to the upper and lower support beams by way of rustproof screws.
Three plastic panels are shown but the number may be varied.
Fio-u-xe 3 snows fence style -No 3 Transparent/semi-transparent/opaque plastic panels joined by plastic or rustproof metal brackets screwed onto or inset into the vertical posts.
FIGURE 4 shows fence style No 4 Plastic panels stabilised by vertical posts as described in Figure 1 and fixed. Clear plastic panel(s) put in as a fixture with an inner rail/runner used to accommodate sliding semi-
transparent/opaque plastic. The semi-transparent/opaque section may be pulled over the clear plastic to retain garden privacy or slid apart to see beyond.
A raiVrunner may also be used to allow any plastic section to split in two or move along.
For example:
Figure IA shows a detail of a profiled support post (1) in which the support post is provided with 4 grooves and plastic panels (2) may be inserted and held in place by plastic seals (3).
Figure 1B shows a corner support post (1) with plastic panels (2) inserted and held in place by plastic seals (3).
Figure 2 shows sections of plastic panels (4) set side-by-side and fixed onto the upper (5) and lower (6) horizontal support beams by means of a bolt/screw (7). The upper (5) and lower (6) horizontal support beams may be screwed/pinned (8) onto or inset into the support post (9).
Figure 2A shows an aerial view of the plastic panel (4) attached to the upper support beam (5) by means of a bolt/screw (7). The support beam (5) is screwed/pinned (8) into the support post (9).
Figure 3A shows a detail of a profiled support post (10) with plastic panels (11) inserted and secured in place by the rustproof metal bracket (13). The metal bracket (13) is then secured to the plastic panel (11).
Figure 3B shows a corner support post (10) with plastic panels (i 1) inserted and secured in place by the rustproof metal bracket (13). The metal bracket (13) is then secured to the plastic panel (11).
Figure 3C shows a detail of a corner support post (10) with the plastic panels (11) secured by means of rustproof metal brackets (13). The rustproof bracket (13) may be screwed onto or inset into the support post (10) and secured to the plastic panel (11) by means of a rustproofbolt/screw (12).
Figure 4 shows a section of fencing stabilised by vertical posts (14) where part of the plastic panel(s) (15) are designed to slide open to permit through access or visibility. The opening panel(s) are supported by top (16) and bottom (17) rail/runners designed to permit the panel(s) (15) to slide horizontally.
Figure 4A shows a side view of the bottom rail/runner (17). The outer plastic panel (18) may be fixed by astragal with rubber sealing (19) while the inner plastic panel (15) slides horizontally.
