Abstract

An attachment device for supporting the head of a ladder over a window or opening in a building structure comprises a support rod 1 and a pair of sleeves 2 for securing the device to the upper ends of the ladder stiles by means of bolts 5. A rod 4, washers 6 and nuts 7 may be provided to secure the sleeves 2 through a hollow top rung of a ladder. A pair of elements 3 which are slidable on the support rod 1 and have arms that project towards the building support surface may also be provided. These arms may be positioned such that they are in surface contact with the reveal of a window and locked in position on the rod 1 by bolts 5, thereby preventing lateral movement of the head of the ladder during use.

Universal ladder Support Am' For Use An Extendable Laer This invention relates to a Universal Ladder Support Arrn (For use with an Extendable Ladder).
It is common to see a Painter or Builder climbing up and down a ladder just to move the ladder that few inches so that he can reach that final corner or put up that final piece of puttering.
The reason he has to move the ladder is that there is a Window, and of course everyone knows you cannot rest a ladder against glass.
This is where the Universal Ladder Support Arm comes in; it is an attachment that will fit all of todays Extendable Ladders, it slides over the top of the ladder, and is secured, It has an arm to the led and right which can be extended to fit any window up to a width of seven foot.
The idea being that you can place the ladder over the window and the supports either side stops you and the ladder going through the window.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1/3 Shows the Universal Ladder Support Am'.
Figure 2/3 shows the Universal Ladder Support Arm in use.
Figure 3/3 shows how the Universal Ladder Support Arrn connects to an extendable ladder.
UP Adder Sit Ann For Use Wit An Expendable backer Referring to the drawing Fig. 1/3.the Universal Ladder Support Arm comprises of a 7 foot rod ( 1) which rests either side of a window, two sleeves (2) which fit over the ends of a ladder, two reveal locks (3) these are locked into the window reveal to stop lateral movement of the ladder, a safety locking rod (4) this rod passes through the top rung of the ladder and each sleeve (2), and is secured with a lock nut (7) and washer (6), this ensures that the Universal Ladder Support Arm is securely attached to the ladder. Sleeve (2) and Reveal lock (3) are held secure by Butterfly Bolts (5).
The drawing Fig.2/3 explains how the Universal Ladder Support Arm would world in practice. The rod (1) rests against the outside wall of a building, the reveal locks (3) are adjusted and secured in place by butterfly bolts (5) this prevents the rod (1) from sliding sideways, the sleeves (2) are secured through the top rung of the ladder buy a bolt (4) washers (6) and nuts (7).
The drawing Fig. 3/3 shows how The Universal Ladder Support fits over the top rung of a Ladder. The sleeve (2) slides over Me top of the ladder (8) it is then secured with the bolt (4) the nut (7) and washer (6)

Claims (7)

Claims
1. A Universal Ladder Support Ann, comprising of a rod which when connected to an Extendable Aluminium Ladder gives a means of resting the ladder between two points
2.A Universal Ladder Support Arm as claimed in Claim 1, wherein at least one Reveal Lock is provided on the rod to prevent lateral movement.
3. A Universal Ladder Support Ann as claimed in Claim 1, wherein at least one Sleeve is provided to connect the rod to a ladder.
4. A Universal Ladder Support Arm as claimed in Claim 2, wherein at least one bolt is used to secure each Reveal Lock to prevent movement.
5. A Universal Ladder Support Ann as claimed in Claim 3, wherein at least one bolt is used to secure each Sleeve to the rod.
6. A Universal Ladder Support Arm as claimed in Claim 3 or Claim 5' wherein at least one bolt is used to secure at least one Sleeve to a ladder.
7. A Universal Ladder Support Ann substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1/3, 2/3 and 3/3 of the accompanying drawings.
