Abstract

A window bridge ladder accessory is a frame which fixes onto a standard ladder by means of eyeholes 3 and therefore aids the ladder user by saving him time because he wouldn't have to move his ladder to work on both ends of a window. It has telescopic arms 2 which will bridge a range of variously sized windows due to the arms being extendable, locking pins 4 fixing the arms by holding them secure at different widths. Rubber pads 7 are also supplied to stop wear and tear on the arms and give grip on the wall. <IMAGE>

Description

WINDOW BRIDGE LADDER ACCESSORY This invention relates to a window bridge ladder accessory.
Ladders are well known free standing structures which have many uses both commercially and privately. This accessory for the ladder is aimed mainly at the decorating & painting trade.
When an upstairs window is being painted the painter first places the top of his ladders below the window and paints the lower half of the window, he then moves his ladders to rest above the window and paints the top half of the window. This invention enables the ladder user to place his ladder in the middle, but away from the window by using the wall surrounding the window, thus saving time because all the painting will be achieveable from this one point and without moving the ladder.
Secondly this invention makes the ladder more secure and therefore safer.
According to the present invention the window bridge ladder accessory comprises :- a basic bodywork from which extend telescopic arms for varying widths of windows and a simple feature for easily attaching and detaching to the ladder, non slip pads fitted to each arm to aid grip and reduce wear.
A specific description of the invention will now be laid out by way of example with cross reference to the accompanying drawings in which Fig 1, shows in perspective, and to one twelfth scale, the window bridge as it stands.
Fig 2, shows how the window bridge would rest on the top of a pair of standard ladders. Again one twelfth scale but only the right hand side is fully shown.
Fig 3, shows how the invention would be used in a typical situation whilst working on an upper floor window. This fiqure is to no scale.
Fig 4, shows to one twelfth scale a telescopic arm as it would appear if taken out of the bdy.
Refering to the drawing the window bridge comprises a body made from box section aluminium (1), two telescopic box section arms (2) and two 'eyehole' brackets (3), which secure the accessory to the ladder. The telescopic arms (2) slide in and out of the body (1) at both ends and are secured by means of locking pins (4) which fit through holes (5) in the body (1) and holes (6) in the arms (2).
There are three holes (6) on each telescopic arm (2) so that the total span of the bridge may be extended. On the prototype from 2.13m (7 foot) to 2.74m (9 foot).
To prevent wear on the telescopic arms (2) rubber pads (7) will be fixed at both ends of (2), this will also increase grip on the wall, aiding safety.
The two 'eyehole' brackets (3) are formed from box section aluminium and are simply fixed by a means, eg. welding to the body (1). When the bridge is being placed on the ladders the top of the ladders will go through eyeholes (3) and then rest on the top rung of the ladder, as shown in figure 2. The bridge will be placed in position while the ladders are on the ground and taken off when the ladders have been finished with and removed from the wall.

Claims (6)

1. A window bridge ladder accessory comprizing a box section body with two extendable arms and means of securing the structure to a standard ladder.
2. A window bridge ladder accessory as claimed in claim 1 wherein two eyehole brackets are supplied for securing the bridge to a standard ladder.
3. A window bridge ladder accessory as claimed in claim 1 wherein the two extendable arms are telescopic and have holes in them whereby you may secure the bridge at different widths.
4. A window bridge ladder accessory as claimed in claim 1 and claim 3 whereby locking pins fix through drilled holes in the body and in the arms therefore making the arms stable.
5. A window bridge ladder accessory as claimed in claim 3 wherein two rubber pads are fixed to the telescopic arms to prevent wear and tear and give grip on the wall.
6. A window bridge ladder accessory substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1-4 of the accompanying drawings.
