Abstract

A paint container fitted with a handle device which can be used for carrying the tin and supporting a paint brush. A dimple on the can and a raised locating lug added to the handle enables the handle to be retained in a vertical position. The handle is fitted with a holder which is able to support a paint brush. Whilst in this vertical position, the brush is held over the top of the can, allowing excess paint to drip into the can. The handle may be lowered when painting is in progress. The device may be made of a plastic material.

Description

DESCRIPTION
Handle Holder The invention is a new type of handle for a standard paint container. It allows a paint brush to be held above the can while the brush is not in use and also allows the paint container to be easily carried.
Traditionally, once a paint brush has been dipped in the paint the user may have difficulty in finding a suitable place to "rest" the brush when not in use. If you rest the brush on your worksurface it can spill the paint on to the worksurface. If you rest the brush on the side of the container it might fall in and cause the handle to become covered with paint, if you rest the brush in the container the brush may sink if there is too much paint or will get paint on the handle if it touches the sides of the container. If you rest the brush on a towel or cloth then you may pick up undesirable foreign objects which could contaminate the paint.
This invention allows the paint brush to be rested while hanging freely from the paint container handle and therefore preventing any of the above problems.
The "handle holder" as it may be known should be made of plastic and would typically be made out of the same material as the current paint container handle. Only a slight modification of the manufacturing process should be required to make the handle holder. A dimple on the can and a raised locating lug may need to be added to the handle to enable it to remain in the vertical position.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Carry the paint container to the site where the painting is required.
Move the handle over to the horizontal position Open the container of paint by removing the lid Begin painting When you wish to rest the brush simply raise the handle to the vertical position Depending on the size of the brush, hang the brush on one of the fingers which forms one side of the holder or locate between the two f ngers of the holder Let the paint brush hang over the container which will allow the handle to remain clean and free of unwanted paint and any excess paint to drip harmlessly into the paint container.
The paint container is carried to the site with the handle in the vertical position and lid on (Fig I) The paint container handle is moved to the horizontal position and the lid removed to allow access to the container (Fig 2) The handle is moved to the vertical position while the lid is off end the quaint brush is hung from one of, or between the two fingers and is suspended over the container (Fig 3) The handle hanger has been removed from the container and laid flat to show the design. The fingers allow for different shapes of brushes to be accommodated and the end sections will be angled to prevent the brush from falling off by accident. (Fig 4)

Claims (1)

  1. Handle Holder A moveable handle which is attached to a container of paint (or similar brush applied liquid) and which allows you to carry the paint pot/can and also temporarily rest the brush when taking breaks from painting and thus allowing the paint brush to hang over the pot/can permitting any excess paint to drain into the pot/can.
