Abstract

The overflow preventing trap is attached to the threaded collar on the underside of a bath/basin outlet and the waste evacuation pipe 4. The trap has a tank 3 filled with water and a float 5 that provides an air tight seal between the top of the flat and the water reservoir seal 7. When the head of water in the bath reaches a predetermined height, the weight of the water forces the float 5 downwards allowing the water to evacuate the waste pipe 4. When not in use, the trap preferably has a sufficient water level to provide an air-tight seal. To empty the bath manually, the float 5 is depressed by turning the seal bung depressor 8.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
Overflowing Stopping Trap The invention relates to a trap that does not allow overflowing water to occur.
As is well known if a bath is left with taps running and is not carefully monitored a dangerous if not messy outcome can happen.
The device consisting of a float chamber can be attached easily to the underneath of a plug hole and attached to the water run off pipe.
When fitted to a bath of the threaded collar 1) Attached through the bath floor 2) to the tank 3) and an attachment made to the waste evacuation pipe 4) A bath is then run.
Water to start with will fill the tank 3) and the float 5) will rise making the seal Bung 6) seal up into the water reservoir waste seal 7).
Upon a height and weight of water achieved within the bath the float 6) will be forced downward until it hits the float, stops 9).
The following water will then evacuate out of the waste evacuation pipe 4).
When a lower level or weight of water is achieved the float returns to the bung position. The whole cycle therefore stopping an overflow.
When the bath is to be emptied the seal bung depressor 8) is turned forcing the float 5) down emptying the entire bath.

Claims (3)

  1. Claims 1. An overflow stopping trap in the form of a float in a chamber which when filled with liquid stop the floor or water leaking away.
  2. 2. An overflow stopping trap which when closed and facing a sufficient weight of water above opens to allow run off of liquid.
  3. 3. An overflow stopping trap which when not in operation maintains a level of liquid sealing off air returning into the bath from the soil pipe.
