Abstract
238,530. Diaz, A. V. Aug. 16, 1924, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Vaporizers, external.-In the gasification of mineral and vegetable oils by heating, deposition of carbon is prevented by adding to the fuel during heating air and, if desired, water and steam. The gasifying chamber may be heated electrically, by a lamp, by red hot carbon, by the exhaust of the engine or by a combination of these means. The chamber is constructed with double walls between which the exhaust passes. Its interior is filled with carbon over which a small current of air is drawn by the engine suction.. The engine is started on a light fuel until the exhaust has raised the carbon to a red heat. The heavy fuel is then drawn through the chamber, being previously vaporized in a spiral tube. A thermal regulator may affect the change over from light to heavy fuel. Catalytic agents such as magnesia or catalytic copper may be used with the carbon.
