Abstract

A protector or mask for use whilst painting is made from a thin flexible rubber type material so as to make it universal enough to fit all sizes of single electrical light switches and sockets or doubles using double size version. A built in lip (as illustrated in figure 3) hooks over the back of the socket or switch holding the protector in position, and using spacers built into lip, holds switch away from wall whilst painting takes place.

SWITCH PROTECTION This invention relates to the protection of electrical light switches and sockets whilst painting.
Even with the utmost care, it is very easy to get paint on wall mounted electrical light switches and sockets whilst decorating.
The invention is a protector made of thin rubber and able to stretch over all sizes of single sockets and switches. A double size version would fit all sizes of double sockets and switches.
The invention will now be described with reference to accompanying drawings :- Figure 1 shows standard light switch; Figure 2 shows rubber protector made of pliable thin rubber with lip and spacers ; Figure 3 shows details of lip with spacers which would hook over back of socket or switch when screws have been loosened and hold switch away from the wall.
In order to fit the protector, firstly, the socket or switch screws need to be loosened 5mm approximately. The flexible protector is then stretched over all four comers of the switch ensuring the rubber lip sits over the rear of the socket as shown m Figure 4.
Decorating may then take place with the assurance that the socket is now protected from paint and light damage. To remove, prise off using fingers and retighten switch screws when paint is dry.

Claims (3)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A rubber protector being flexible enough to fit over all single sizes of electrical light switches and sockets.
  2. 2. A rubber protector as claimed in claim 1, having a small rubber lip to hook over the back of the switch or socket and hold protector in place.
  3. 3. A rubber protector as claimed in claims 1 and 2, having a small rubber lip with spacers to hold switch away from the wall whilst painting takes place.
