Regulating combustion.-Apparatus for operating a combustion controlling member such as the damper of a boiler furnace in accordance with the pressure in the boiler comprises a float 6 in a cylinder 5 containing mercury and communicating through a pipe 4 with a mercury reservoir 2 exposed to boiler pressure. Variation of pressure in the boiler causes the float to rise or fall and actuate, by means of a yoke 8 connected to the float, a cable 10 passing round a pulley 11, which is in effect a floating lever, and fixed to an arm 12 on a piston-rod 13 for actuating the damper 19. The movement of the pulley 11 is communicated by means of a rod 24 to a four-way valve 25 controlling the admission of hydraulic pressure fluid to a cylinder 15 containing a piston 14 connected to the rod 13. The valve 25 is under the joint control of the float and the piston 14.
